well, yes, obviously, but that would take hours. I'm just looking for some quick, rough, but reliable numbers... this is just a preliminary study.

I think I'd start by looking at Crain's annual book of lists. They list the largest employers, largest nonprofits, etc., in the area. I'm sure some of the numbers would be there.

You left out the V.A. hospital!

2,000 plus Workers and 100's of Volunteers.

Don't know the patient #'s but they serve the metro area for veterans and those coming home from the War.

Henry Ford Hospital has 903 beds and their system wide occupancy according to Crain's is 77.4%. The entire Henry Ford System has over 14,000 full-time employees. 42% of total system beds are at Henry Ford Hospital, so if you estimate total employees based on number of beds, that's about 5,995 full-time employees. I would assume that is an underestimate due to there being more administrative personnel at HFH.

I thought I remembered reading somewhere that the Detroit School of Arts has 1,200 students. That could be wrong though, but from there you can probably make a reasonable estimate of teachers, faculty, and other employees. My guess would be 100 or so.
