A spring snow in Detroit is rarely welcomed. But you must admit it can sure make an otherwise dreary city look so purdy. So have a look at a few Detroit Quick Pics taken today and tell me if you don’t agree:

I don't mind the snow. There's still a 10" gradient from Detroit/Monroe to the northern suburbs. This snow storm will help to smooth out that gradient. Irony is, last year at this exact same time, it was 81F degrees (record heat) with severe thunderstorm. Go figure... Nice pic BTW. |

Detroitrise, Antwan did ask for a buck fifty for the bus. I never carry money when I out and about, in this case taking photos and walking the pooch. When my son saw the photo, he said it was his friend and called him an his cell. Small world. No fallout, Dhugger. Just plain 'ol mom nature. |

72 inches for the season now at Detroit Metro ... 4th snowiest season ever since records began in the 1870s. I'll briefly take the place of Urbanize (I never used it career-wise, went in a different direction, but I did get a Meteorology degree) ..... it's been incredible to see how many storms have taken a perfect track this winter for snow in SE Michigan ..... up northeast from the mid-Mississippi Valley through Indiana and Ohio, passing just to the southeast. Indications are for the general pattern to remain the same through at least the end of April. It doesn't look like the warmer weather will firmly take hold for awhile. I measured 4" here at 11 AM, but some of it probably melted. Mrnittany, you're right. Because of La Nina, we're seeing our January in March. The winter was pretty bad (in lack of snowfall) initially unless you lived in the Northern or NW suburbs. Anyway, we even have a shot at severe weather and a bit of flooding Monday before the cooler weather returns. I like to watch Tom Skillings out of Chicago, that guy is good |

The northeast suburbs got about 6 inches of snow, most of which melted on the pavement, but most of which stuck to the grass. |

In 1992, around the summer solstice, there were snow flurries in northern MI, I remember a near-freezing rain that very cool day when I lived in Keego Harbor, and there were ice crystals similar to hail that were deposited on the ground near the downspouts of the house. |

Michigan winters make you strong! Think about perpetually warm places, and the people that live there. Looney sissies, I tell ya. (Not Ray though, he was here long enough to build up a reserve of character to last him through his retirement in Vegas.) There's nothing like scraping quarter inch ice off your windshield while the wind is biting at your face at 6 a.m. to keep you on your toes. And there in the next driveway is your neighbor, with an original and clever quip like "Nice morning, eh?". |

That snow was heavy. Apparently, I didn't turn my wiper blades off when I got home last night. This morning there was a nice heap of snow on my windshield, so I opened the door, grabbed my scraper from the back seat and started the car to warm it up while I cleared the windshield. Well, the wiper blades immediately activated and swept a mountain of the white stuff into my car via the open door. Ever since then the wiper blades park in the up position, so my guess is the weight of the snow caused the park tab on the wiper motor bracket to bend. If only Urbanize still posted on this board he could have given us a heads-up about the heaviness of the coming snow and I might have remembered to turn my wiper blades off -- thanks for abandoning us in our time of need U. |

Hbisson, you probably remember when Joe's was painted that weird Party Store Blue? (I have a photo somewhere, and I'll post it if I find it). I think the city persuaded them to paint it over to the current scheme. Now I see how you are familiar with Maria's restaurant. (See related story) PS Urbanize! Show yourself! |

The windshield wiper story reminds me of the hidden windshield wiper design introduced by GM in the mid-70s, what a great idea that was for people who lived in the cold winter states! I got sick of chopping and digging snow and ice out of the gap where the wipers parked into, and would shut the car off with the wipers in mid-sweep when I had to park outside for an extended time during a snowy day in the winter. |

I lift the wipers all the way off the windshield just before a snowstorm. That way they can't get frozen to the windshield or damaged while scraping ice. |
