I posted this link on another thread but thought it deserved it's own because it's an open survey on transit priorities by SEMCOG (I apologize if it's been posted before, but I did a forum search and didn't find it).

It won't let me finish it. On question number 17 it asks "If you were given $100 to fund transportation improvements in Southeast Michigan, how would you divide it among the six major areas listed below?". I answered and it says that my answer must equal $100. My answer does equal $100!

Nevermind, it doesn't like dollar signs.

I had the same problem...gave $5 each to everything other than public transportation, and $75 to that.

Trainman would be proud.

I gave the other 10 to bridges...mostly because the bridges over 94 on the East side are so decrepit.

I gave:

70% to public transit (it'll be costly to construct an effective transit system from scratch.)
10% to pavement conditions (we might as well maintain the roads we already have.)
10% to decreasing congestion (not necessarily more highways, but rather traffic circles and other new ways of thinking.)
5% to bike/pedestrian facilities (it doesn't seem like it would be that expensive to create such things as bike lanes or small pathways.)
4% to bridge improvements (this one I should have increased, but it seems the state is doing a good job replacing the worst bridges.)
1% to traffic safety (this is the least of my concerns.)

Come on Trainman! Take the survey. Public transit is your special interest.

I think it's a flawed survey in some respects. If you are dissatisfied with too much or too little road expansion, you would answer the first question the same way. The same could be said for other questions as well.

Fishtoes,

I thought the same thing, they hopefully will get the word when they review how we'd spend that hundred bucks, though.

Cheers

Agreed... but at least they're surveying the public in an accessible way. That's a step forward.
