For me, it's those Beaumont ads with the synthesizer going DUNN DUNN DUNN DUNN DUNN... I used to like the voice of the guy from Nature on PBS, but now he fills me with dread and foreboding. Can you imagine having dinner with this guy? "It's your life. Do you.. really want to eat that cheeseburger? DUNN DUNN DUNN DUNN DUNN..."

Oh, and I forgot to mention those fuckin' annoying ABC Warehouse ads with "Gordy."
They'd be enough to make me stop shopping there, if I shopped there in the first place.

That Discount Tires ad with the granny throwing a tire through the plate glass window -- that dates from the '70s.

I hate the one for sunsetter retractable awnings where that annoying woman just keeps saying, "Tell them about the discount Harry." Now I turn the station before she even gets to her line.

"This is Charles from the collection agency, PICK UP!, we're going to sue you!"

The few times I have gone over to AM radio (I don't consider myself old enough for that yet) I'm amazed at the ads aimed at one or two executives "X company can cold roll form steel to astm procedures within Y tolerance, an ISO 9001 tier one supplier".

I don't think the PBS Nature guy, George Page, is the same guy from the Beaumont ads. They sure sound similar, though.

George Page retired in 1998 and died and 2006.

I would like to think that a classy guy like Page would not have done those melodramatic Beaumont ads. Several family members have had bad experiences at Beaumont, and the family joke is that we are not to be taken to Beaumont unless we are actually bleeding out on the corner of Thirteen and Woodward.

Those Dittrich Furs ads were made in the 70's by Yessian Music for a dime. Some of the shots are from Cranbrooke or Kirk in the Woods. They actually had a little spot on this in the news a few months back on an anniversary of the company.

Hands down the most annoying TV or radio commercial running right now.

Spitty, thanks for reminding me. The winner is "Tell them about the discount, Harry" ...

Whatever radio ad writing lamebrain thought a whining woman and a totally oblivious male was funny and not excruciatingly irritating, is an idiot. I too can't get to the dial fast enough to turn it off WWJ. I was even thinking of emailing them; I wonder if they care that they lose listeners with obnoxious ads like that...

Not the most annoying , but the two OLDEST radio commercials I remember were Detroit landmarks.
1. Kahn's Clothes--Ralph Binge and Jo Gentile, on CKLW radio, opening boxes and boxes of Kahn's Clothes (on Broadway I believe near Gratiot), the sound of the crowbar prying open the crates of clothes as they sang"Kahn's Clothes, Kahn's Clothes, They're Neat and Thrifty".

2. Benjamin Rich-local Detroit realator-- "Cash for your property in 48 hours, from the little store that looks like a bank" was his theme song.

Have not thought of these two commercials in years. Anyone out there remember them? Come on Forum, Ask your parents/grandparents. Ask Ray36,Tponetom, maybe even jjaba,

Jl-
Yessian did the music and UltraMedia, which had their offices at Long Lake and Woodward did the filming. Back in the 1930's there was an office park built on that corner. It resembled an old English village with the whole slate roof, half-timbered work/live places. There were little arch ways that led to secluded court yards all just north of the Kingsley Inn and across the street from the Fox and Hounds.

---
For me, any commercial on WCHB - esspecially their station ID - sounds like it was produced by Marlee Matlin.

Those sappy Jeffrey Feiger TV ads trying to convince us what a nice guy he is. He must have practiced that dippy smile for months. If I didn't already despise him, those ads would do it.

Jeff needs those commercials right now, his campaign finance lawsuit case is heating up.

He fights for the rights of the little guy.....

and the 33% and up he gets from the fight.
