Drive. The commute is pretty good. Its a very direct route getting downtown from Hazel Park. Jump on 75 and just head about 9 miles out. I was tired of 70 mile round-trip commutes so I was lucky to find work closer to home to remedy that situation. |

My wife and I take our son to day care together. I drop her off at work. I get free parking with my job, then mid-afternoon my wife takes the car and picks up our son. I take the SMART Woodward Limited home. |

I drive when I have assignments outstate and in Chicago, and when I am picking up boxes downtown. I telecommute otherwise. |

I drive, and it involves three state highways, and two interstates. Thank you, Gateway Project! Bagley to Trumbull to the Lodge north to 94 east to 75 north to 8 Mile to Woodward and northward. I moved recently from north of New Center to Mexicantown, and it used to be a little easier (and closer) at the former location. Either way I can't ride my bike, it's just not feasible for many reasons. I could take the bus, but I'd have to walk down to the CBD or hope for a SMART bus with a bike rack. I really just want to work downtown or telecommute. |

For the first time in my life, my commute is one block, but that's living in downtown (though they call it uptown) Charlotte. After many years of 696/75/Square Lake hell, it is a welcome reprieve. |

Professorscott, I discovered to some surprise recently that there is a marked bike lane on parts of Atwater from the RenCen eastwards. It seems sort of random, and a bit unnecessary compared to, say, bike lanes on Jefferson. This doesn't really affect your point very much re: Detroit vs., e.g., Chicago, Portland, etc. but it is worth pointing out. |

The subway. ETA: It's about a 5-6 mile trip. It takes 30-40 minutes because I have to make a couple of transfers. The reason I take the subway is because I live in Manhattan. (Message edited by iheartthed on April 23, 2008) |

Drive, about 60 miles round trip daily. Mt Clemens to Dearborn and back, 94 the whole way. Recently switched to a 4-cylinder, THANK GOD. Would love to find something on my side of town that paid the same, just haven't yet. It's 30-45 minutes in the a.m. and about 60-75 minutes in the p.m. (Message edited by solarflare on April 23, 2008) |

That statement is hilarious on so many levels that I lost count. Fareast, do you drive your Excursion to your weekend comedy club gigs? |

Livonia to Rochester Hills = 75 mile round trip. Drive a compact car and average close to 30mpg. Bought the house when I worked in Plymouth and wife worked in Farmington Hills. She's still there, and I'm on my 5th job since then. Had an interview with a New Center company yesterday that would cut my commute in half. Can't move because we owe $170,000 on a house we'd be lucky to get $160k for. |

In theory, if I get the job in the City, I can take the #38 Plymouth Road bus to Dexter, and ride the #16 to WGB and 2nd in New Center. About an hour on the buses, plus walk time. I'd have to leave the house by 6:30, and get to work around 8am. |

From the burbs all the way down Van Dyke to Gratiot. Follow Gratiot into downtown. It takes about 40 minutes on a good day to go 15.3 miles but that will end with Kettering getting out of school. Avoiding 75 altogther due to bridge work and general bullshit, plus 75 adds 6 more miles onto commute. |

Like Saintme, drive Wyandotte to downtown (midtown, actually) via Jefferson or Fort. Its not quite 15 miles one way; it still takes 40 minutes most days. Jefferson used to be my cherished little secret, until the Gateway project. |

i live "near" the scientist, i get on 75N at rosa parks, and run it north to 696E, then mound rd. north into NW warren. its about 17 miles round trip i think, takes me about 20-25 minutes. though given my destination, taking the bus/bicycle or a combination of the two is not ideal. my girlfriend works in oak park and we are hatching a plan to drive together to some sort of central point and bike the rest of the way. if i worked later, or you worked earlier mr. scientist, we could possibly car pool |
