Some that come to mind... 1. Being one of the cities that DID NOT riot after the Rodney King verdict. 2. No looting or rioting during the great blackout of 2003. 3. Black and white cheering our own Joe Lewis after the fight between "Freedom vs Fascism" 4. Ordinary folks catching the druggie who beat up Rosa Parks in her own house. What else come to mind? |

Two of your suggestions are things that did not even happen, so how can they be a "best moment"? Here's several big 20th Century Detroit events that actually happened: July 22-25, 1912 - Cadillaqua Festival Aug. 20, 1920 - Detroit's WWJ made the first commercial radio broadcast in the United States. Sept. 22, 1931 - 85,000 WW I veterans marched in the American Legion parade down Woodward and Jefferson. It lasted nine hours and was viewed by one million spectators. |
