Everyone and everything was liberal back then.

That's why things were better. :-)

There certainly was more hope and a lot less cynicism back then. Now it seems like everything is us vs them - government, labor, the media, regionalism, haves & have-nots, etc.

Even Obama commented yesterday that Michigan has been ignored for the last seven years. Some might (cynically) say he's pandering, but he's right and being ignored, along with years of corporatism and now KK it's no surprise that community trust is so battered and crime is through the roof.

The question is where does the change start?

When this country needed Detroit, that city was always there, and always willing to do more than their share. Now that Detroit needs the rest of the country, where is IT?

That is so true Detroitrise. But, (and this is going to come across as another crazy Sean post) maybe we have been through enough to cut the proverbial grass and see who the snakes are. In other words, we all should be able to look in our rear view mirrors (hind sight) and see how we need to act towards certain people/groups/situations, and apply that knowledge to the future.

Being a "nice guy" is a strange thing. Maybe there is a reason they say not to expect anything in return.
