The other day I saw bits and pieces of "The Blues Brothers" and during the performance of "Sweet Home Chicago" it got me to thinking....I can't think of a song that is quite as well known about our own metropolis or region (Though I'm sure when people come up with one I'll kick myself for not remembering).
So, what songs at least contain references (even slightly obscure ones)to Detroit, or even Michigan for that matter.
Ok, not a pressing issue or groundmoving topic, but thought we could have a little fun with this.

"Detroit City" (Bobby Bare)

"Home folks think I'm big in Detroit city.
From the letters that I write, they think Im fine.
But by day, I make the cars, and by night I make the bars,
If only they could read between the lines."

Lansing's "Ingham County Regulars" were a great band that had a song with the line:

"I-75 North to big Detroit City, last call on ???? Street was 5:45, with a 12 pack of Strohs, I slowed down to sixty, rolled into Lansing half out of my mind."

We had a thread about this a couple of yrs ago. I think it was decided "Hello Detroit" was as close to an official song as there is. I used to like hearing it while leaving Tiger Stadium. Kind of like our New York, New York. We may need to replace Kennedy Square with Campus Martius Park though. :-)

Put your hands up for Detroit - Freddie LeGrand
(samples from Hands up for Detroit, by Matthew Dear.) The song was a UK #1 in 2006 and Madonna used a sample of the track in a remix version of her 2000 single Music as part of a promotional tour in support of her Hard Candy album.

The UK Single also included a "Packard Plant Mix"

"Put your hands up for Detroit, our lovely city"

My favorite part:

Well the headlights, they was another sight, we had one on the left and two on the right, but when you pulled out the switch all three of 'em come on.
