Driving down 696 at Gratiot today, I snapped a couple cell phone photos of the Goodyear blimp while I was driving. I'm assuming it's in town for the Red Bull races since our sports teams are all out of town this week.   | ||

They used to moor the blimp at the old Naval Air Station at Grosse Ile. I don't know if they still do. Many years ago we watched them land and secure the blimp. We hung around for a while and talked to one of the ground crew. The crew member let us in to the gondola and told our little group a lot about the airship operations. I also saw the home base for airship operations in Akron OH. | ||

They still use Grosse Ile sometimes, other times Ann Arbor Airport. It depends which is closest to the event. |
