Driving down 696 at Gratiot today, I snapped a couple cell phone photos of the Goodyear blimp while I was driving. I'm assuming it's in town for the Red Bull races since our sports teams are all out of town this week.

Are the Red Bull races televised? My guess is that they're getting stock footage for the next Pistons game. |

They used to moor the blimp at the old Naval Air Station at Grosse Ile. I don't know if they still do. Many years ago we watched them land and secure the blimp. We hung around for a while and talked to one of the ground crew. The crew member let us in to the gondola and told our little group a lot about the airship operations. I also saw the home base for airship operations in Akron OH. |

They still use Grosse Ile sometimes, other times Ann Arbor Airport. It depends which is closest to the event. |
