What places would you recommend to eat downtown that are a step up from the burger and fries menu?

Detroit brewing company on Broadway is good, not too expensive. Mrs. 56Packman and I had a good meal there Friday night, right out on the street.

Thats a fairly open ended question. Kind of depends what your taste and food preference is, and whether you want to be immediately downtown (CBD), time of day, etc.

Here are some favs:
Union Street (midtown)
Traffic Jam (midtown)
Mosiac (Greektown)[$$]
Wolfgang Pucks (MGM casino)[$$]
Slows (Corktown)
Andiamo (Fox)
Atlas Bistro (Brush Park)
Detroit Beer Co. (Harmonie Pk, Broadway)
Roma Cafe (Easterm Mkt)

List could go on, but a starter list.

The best food overall downtown in my opinion is Pappy's Pub on Monroe in Greektown. The best burger I've had though is at The Detroit Beer Company on Broadway, although their best item is the Shepherds Pie.

Wife is looking for a sit down, classy dinner with wine. Burgers are out this time around.

Tom's Oyster Bar on Jefferson/Beaubien.

The Majestic (very recommended) and Union street right on Woodward in Midtown.

Paul, I mentioned Fishbone's on your Hilton thread but if you want a little more upscale and a short walk go with Mosaic in Greektown. Otherwise, head to the Ren Cen for Andiamo's or Seldom Blues (be certain to call ahead for a river view if you go to either)

I really like Opus One and Mosaic. Very good service, good food. Pricey, though.

I love Lafayette (or American) Coney Island but the wife wants to go upscale. No one has mentioned Sweet Georgia Brown. I thought they were pretty good.

Small Plates is very good. We went there after a show at the Opera House. It's a new favorite of mine.
