I was reading an old NY Times article that is not related specifically to Detroit, but this statement stuck out:

There's an arrow of causation that runs from diverging income trends to Jack Abramoff and the K Street project.
Considering current events, I think the city of Detroit serves as a perfect example of this supposed correlation.
