The one story building next to the Broderick Tower on Woodward collapsed onto the sidewalk on Friday night. Nice. |

Wow, can we get this cleaned up please? It's a little embarrassing to have this on lower Woodward... |

Wow, that's pretty sad. Expect a surface lot there by New Years (further ruining the Woodward stret wall). Good news, at least Otto's Crispy Corn is alright. (Message edited by DetroitRise on November 09, 2008) |

I am surprised that more building aren't falling down. So many are open to the elements and with rain and snow they have to be on the verge of collapse. I am sure the winters are harder on the buildings with all the freezing an thawing. |

urban explorers desperate to get into the broderick often found themselves in that little building. the roof was caved-in on the alley side, and the hole has been getting bigger until it just went. it used to be a coney, does anyone know the name? |

Yikes, that's two downtown buildings in seven months. The rear wall of the Odd Fellow's Temple collapsed on April 1st. |

quote:Wasn't that Ottos and Tell Ezzs shoes? As mentioned in my post above (and seen in an earlier pictures) Otto's is fine. As for Tall-Eez Shoes, they're in a completely different building on John R & Woodward. |

Yup, I was recently admiring the bricklayer's handiwork from the rooftop of the Old Shillelagh. They did a really nice job, fast too. |

Three depending on what happened with Lafayette. You also have the copper roof incidents on the Book Tower, and the facade from the United Artist issue, not to long ago. So, how do we go about with voicing our demands as a community? Other cities don't stand for this, and our suburbs don't stand for this, so why is Detroit? These aren't just the abandoned towers, which are tough to renovate or demolish. These are small buildings that are simply being ignored, and someone's going to get hurt. There are families with kid walking right past that building to get to games and shows, as well as our young teens going shopping at places like the Nike Store. We're telling tourists that they are safe on our streets, and telling skeptical suburbanites and outer urbanites that they can bring their families downtown. If even one of those people end up being a victim from this falling debris, it's going to go on the news, and the news is going to tell the truth.... that two buildings have completely collapsed, and others have had elevator disasters and falling pieces of facade on our main street's sidewalks, and no one did anything. Let's prevent that from even being possible please. Thoughts, advice, ideas, formalities...? |

What time did this happen on Friday? I was driving home around midnight and was stuck in traffic right there, when about 100 people in line at Bleu suddenly started running away from the door of the club and many towards my car. freaked me out big time, though I eventually attributed it to the two Christians holding big "Accept Jesus" signs - thinking maybe the mob was just chasing them away... but maybe a collapse is what caused the running... Also, I was in that building in Feb. 07. VERY VERY scary. I remember the hole being big, and I remember cautiously climbing around it... I am GLAD I wasn't in there when it fell down. |

If no one has actual pictures, I'll wander by this afternoon or something and take some quick snaps, even if it's with my phone camera. |

Not exactly the nicest or best-fitting building on Lower Woodward. Still, insane that it would spontaneously collapse. |
