Is there any news on these two nice buildings?

Someone bought the GAR building before the current recession and the economics of fixing it up probably make less sense, but what is happening.

Santa Rita on 35 Owen was scheduled for demolition- is it that bad?

thanks Hemingway that was from May and I think the city awarded it to them- just wonder what's happened since. Nice building.

The Santa Rita building also looks nice in pictures.

All I heard is someone wanted to reopen the building as it's original purpose ( a meeting place with a market/stores ) and were only offering $80,000 to the city as they figured it would take over $2 Million to get the building in suitable condition. I never heard how their bid worked out but that was in the middle of the summer.

Hmm derek wish I could verify that.

Seems everyone is discussing the GAR building which is cool and nothing on the Santa Rita on 35 Owen scheduled for demolition.

Santa Rita's just an apartment building from 1920 or so... the GAR Building is far more important architecturally and historically, and dates from 1899-1900.

It's the Saint Rita Apartments, not the Santa Rita Apartments, lol.

It's not very bad inside, but it stands next to a high school and there isn't much promise in it coming back anytime soon.

I was also wondering on the status of the Kwame 50 (or Kwame 24, ha)

That's where I first saw the Santa Rita - there were comments that it wasn't in that bad a shape to merit demolition. The $178k cost to the city to destroy it could be used to fix it up , at least partially.

What's that neighborhood like?
