Sharon McPhail denies story of electrocution plot
BY ZLATI MEYER • FREE PRESS STAFF WRITER • November 27, 2008

Mayoral candidate Sharon McPhail denied Wednesday that in 2003 she accused then-Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's administration of trying to electrocute her.

A guest on "Inside Detroit" on WCHB-AM (1200), McPhail was asked about the incident by a caller.

"It's really hard to explain that to anyone who believes that ridiculous story," she told the woman who'd phoned Mildred Gaddis' show, calling the story a lie.

In January 2003, the then-Detroit city councilwoman alleged that cut wires from a back massager on her desk chair were wrapped around the metal base, designed to give her an electric shock. After McPhail discovered the chair in her office in the Coleman A. Young Municipal Building, she called the mayor a bully and a thug.

At the time, McPhail suggested that the Kilpatrick administration was after her because she voted against two casino projects and could run against Kilpatrick in the next mayoral election.

McPhail later reconciled with Kilpatrick, who had called the allegation ridiculous, and went on to become general counsel under him.

She said that reporting Wednesday's call-in conversation would be racist.

"Let's not call in and make up stories or go along with what the Free Press story was," McPhail said on air. "We all know what the individual over there who was part of that editorial board thinks of me. And they made up the story and they spread it, because it's a crazy black woman story. When they can't get you any other way -- they can't get you on integrity, they can't get you on your work -- they say you're crazy."

My only comment/question (other than she must be living with Monica Conyers in Bizarroworld): Who is the individual on the Freep's editorial board that she is referring to?

She stuck by THUG KK's side till the end. Guess she thinks all the KK lovers/numbskulls will vote for her. She mentions her integrity. She lost that years ago when she tied her wagon to the Thugmaster.

When it comes to losing integrity (I think "surrendering integrity" is a better way to put it,) being shown to be a fuckin' liar goes a long way. WDIV dug into their archives and produced the video-clip of this haughty-but-cheap two-bit broad making the accusation.
McPhuck off, Sharon, and take all of your various faces with you.

And none of those various faces are that attractive either.

Ewww.

Everyone remembers it because it was so outlandish. For her to say it was just conjecture just paints her as someone having a very selective memory.

The Freep immediately dug up the letter she wrote to them in response the reporting of the incident in 2003.

"To put the "chair" incident to rest once and for all, let me say that I see it as a prank and nothing more. My staff and the council security are concerned, and justifiably so. The police investigator indicated that the wires on the chair were intentionally cut. I continue to search for some other more reasonable explanation."

When it was politically expedient to attack KK, she attacked him (with an accusation which, even if accurate, served only to cause her to sound like a whacko.) When it was politically expedient to work for the same guy who she had accused of trying to Rosenberg her, she donned a pair of workboots (after first making sure that they had rubber soles) and signed on.
The whole issue of losing, or surrendering, integrity is an issue which, as they say in TV courtroom dramas, assumes facts not found in evidence. It seems probable that this nasty little jive-ass rat-woman never HAD any integrity.

I remember the WDIV story as if it happened yesterday. How Sharon McPhail can say that she didn't make these accusations about Kilpatrick at the time and there is video footage that proves that she did, shows that McPhail is mentally unstable.

Let us not forget that at the same time as she was sitting in Old Sparky, she was forced to resign as outside legal counsel for some community downriver that was embroiled in a dispute with CoD Water Department. McPhail saw 'no conflict' in sitting on the CoD Council overseeing the Water Department that she was sueing on behalf of the other community. It took the State Bar Assoc. stepping in to point out the conflict and demanding she resign from ONE of the two positions. Her lapses in logic are legend, and her vision totally blinded by whatever crapola goes on between her ears.

I hope that if she takes a run for elected positions ever again, they replay the Electric Chair clips, as well as her denials of any 'secret deal' KK made regarding the police officers, which played on the news the morning of that VERY DAY that the documents proving it were produced for the judge and the City Council. Her sole explenation was she 'forgot' having seen something to that effect while she was on the COuncil, and KK never told her the deal had been signed anyways. After all, it was confidential and legal and all.... why would he have told her anything about it before she went out there and denied its existence?

Blow them all out, the Kilpatricks, the McPhails, the Blackwells, all the leeches and parasites out for a quick buck.

I remember about 15 years ago McPhail was running for mayor the very first time and she was asked to speak at some function I was attending. I sat probably three seat away from her at this elbow rub function and when she spoke, I just couldn't stomach listening to her. I was open to hearing what she had to say but there was just something about her that just spoke of politicking, saying whatever she thought she needed to say in order to get a vote, and just playing us for sheep.

Ever since that day I've always looked at her with a critical eye and now hearing this, I'm glad I trusted my instincts then.

her delusions of grandeur are about as large as the chances of her becoming mayor.
maybe she can use some of the political donation money to hide her debts.

McPhails' got debts? From what? Where?

This is the first I've heard of her being in any sort of financial crisis. She always seems as though she's been employed somehow someway. Please elaborate.

Once you're in city politics. There's going to going to be friends, rivals, alliances and doublecross. It's in the name of money, greed and power.

Here's a person who has proven the Peter Principle correct and wants to climb higher on the ineptitude level. Incredible. It's bad enough that she toadied up to Kwame. Now, wants to finish "his" unfinished business. Whoa, that's nerve, chutzpah or whatever you call it. Heaven help us. It's the Sarah Palin syndrome.
Grab for power without qualifications, ignorance is bliss, loyality is blind etc.

Are some of us here wishing that Kwame would've done a better job wiring up that chair now?

As a friend visiting from out of town commented about our politicians, "this is better than any crazy movie script". You really dont know to laugh or to cry. A bit of both I suspect.

Detroitbill, I've got relatives on the west coast that say Ray Bradbury couldn't write more fantastical science fiction than what's going on here with our politics.

still trying to figure out how writing about something she did/said is considered racist? I'd call it reporting the "news"

Raptor, I think saying that she is pigeonholed as a "crazy black woman" when she is caught on video affirming a story she now denies has a racist tinge...don't you? It's the classic Kwame "us vs. them" tactic. I for one am frankly sick of it, and I wish Detroit's movers and shakers would put a moratorium on this subject. You are not a victim of racism every time you get caught lying, cheating or stealing. It's just awful and she should be ashamed.

If nothing else Ashdetroit, when they get caught doing crap like that, it's more of a DISSERVICE to their own race than anything else. A crime is a crime is a crime- regardless of skin color.
