I found it amusing, jabbing at the elephant in the room without poking it in the eye. The vehicle of humor makes this both telling and enjoyable but it could benefit with some editing for length. Yet another lesson of the power of the web for expression. |

While viewing the video, I thought of what happened outside Bleu the other night. Then remembered an old local newspaper article that traced the economic costs of just one confrontation between young black men that took place in Detroit. Multiple surgeries and partial physical rehab cost the taxpayers millions of dollars. Turned out that I knew one of the victims of this foolish behavior as a clerk at a local printing shop. Sure wish there was a quick and easy way to stop the stupidity...... |

That is pretty funny, and it did make me smile, but... There are black people out there who dress and act weird too. Is it OK to make fun of them? Somehow I doubt it. Or maybe, now that I think of it, it is OK as long as the people poking fun are black also. In this case, it is mostly whites poking fun at whites so we laugh. It truly amazes me with the degree of hubris shown by 'basic white' people! It's all a BIG joke and a laugh, RIGHT? When there is NOT a known history of systemic discrimination and abuse, relating to the overall deduction of character in the lives of 'basic white' people by controlling agents that would undermine and subvert the 'basic white' authority in this country, then it's easy to laugh at the stereotypical qualities, individuality and civilities of 'their' basic character__go figure! If one was to flip-the-script, that is to live the Black experience, the Black experience does not allow such comfort due to our abysmal reality resulting from the history of trauma bought on by the dehumanizing actions of the 'white collective'! blksoul_atcha! You know the hand-outs aren't coming so either shit or get off the pot! Quit whining about the white collective and do it for yourself, by yourself! Even more amazing when 'basic white' people think it is as simple as the above quote, negating the history of abuse imposed by their ancestors! By the way 'Goat', we don't need 'basic white' people to tell us that we ought to do it ourselves. Despite all the disparities in the Black experience, we seem to do a pretty good job at surviving the horrific experience imposed by the white collective__go figure! I have to agree with Blacksoulx on this one Goat. Look at the big picture and put youre self in the other guys shoes: Its easy to sit back and demand that others 'pull themselves up by their bootstraps' when you live in Canada (youre Canadian right) great country, but when Canadian employers arent burdened by insurance costs, and their isnt the same history of black vs. white antagonism etc. you tend to see things a little differently.Wages are down, would you want to work two demeaning jobs, and risk not having auto or health insurance to get ahead, or catch two or more buses to get to an insecure low paying job. America is a poor country. If it wasnt for credit the repairs on my used vehicle would have taken a huge chunk out of my savings.(My mechanic friend moved out of state) Paying bills and saving-investing shouldnt be as complicated in the land of the free home of the brave. I have witnessed first hand preferential hiring of white employees (some black managers have admitted a bias against black workers) one chain I was employed at didnt start agressively hire blacks until the two tier lower wage system went into effect. |

I like how you assume I am white. But who is negating it? We know what has happened and there are many here who do not follow the "white collective"; code speak for "whitey, the man or people not of colour". In other words anyone but black. You keep talking about the injustices done to black people but what is it that you or your people are doing to mitigate those past acts (or the acts of today caused by but a few people)? Tell us some stories of achievement, share with us the positives of your culture and how you have overcome those damages instead of railing against white people as if so many of them continue to keep the black man down. If you don't want to hear whitey tell you something then don't bother complaining either because many people today have had no hand in your hurt. All I am trying to state is if no one has helped in 400+ years what makes you think anything will be different now? Help yourself, to which you have stated you are doing. But share these facts because the more you continue to state what is wrong without hearing what can be acheived you will be tuned out and no one will really give a shit which seems to be the fact in this day and age. As a person who grew up very poor I could have become just another statistic but I decided to do something for me. I know racism persists today and it will never be vanquished but to hear how the "white collective" IE white people, are keeping black people down is just wrong. Some perhaps, but the majority? Nope! Talk about racism....nice painting gong on with that extra wide brush. Your own hate masks what people can do to help and to change their own perceptions. |

i found it freakin hysterical. Search knows what's goin on and if u think any different u are fooling yourself. it a systemic breakdown in the city that we all will acknowledge but only a few will admit to. Blacksoul is doin "what he do" by crying but there is no room for Canadiens or any other white dude to come on here and tell him he's not cutting the mustard. life is unfair and we all know it. Thats why i dont gotta prepay for gas. but that is no reason to stand on a pedestal proclaiming your infanite wisdom or any thing else. just ask sharmaal. |

Blksoul_x said that,,,, "Goat happily stated... quote: ^^Then pick your ass up off the floor and get moving^^. If whitey isn't going to do it then you must rise and do it yourself! You know the hand-outs aren't coming so either shit or get off the pot! Quit whining about the white collective and do it for yourself, by yourself!" Actually that message (in not so many words) was delivered by a Clinton to your ancestors back in 1866 ,,, not that Clinton, This one was Clinton B Fisk. Fisk was appointed assistant commissioner of the Freedmen's Bureau for Kentucky and Tennessee. He worked through the Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands and the American Missionary Association to reestablish the first free schools in the Southern United States for both African American and white children.
Now I don't care if Goat, Terry, or anyone else is Black or White, Rich or Poor, Straight or Whatever! But I do think that regardless of what you are or where you are from, Only you can be held accountable for what you do in life. and it must sure be nice to use the "Black experience" as the reason someone can't get ahead in this country, and more power to you if that's your thing. But us basic white people have no choice but to try to make it, we don't have 200+ year old excuses to preach to anyone for sympathy. I've had good people and bad people in my family 200 yrs ago, And not a damn one of them did a thing to get me where I'm at, or keep me from getting here! Blksoul_x I'm not trying to get on your case here at all, In fact I'd like to meet you someday, so I can personally tell you I am sorry for what My people( that I didn't know) did to your people ( that you didn't know) and as a friend help you find your way into the brave new world we have here now. and as far as the video that started this thread and rehashed the race issue for the um-teenth time, it was just silly, that's all! |

When the dialation of a constricted splincter encounters the parallax to the thickness of the epidermis, then it can be pondered around the Cro-Magnon bonfires of the Basic Caucasion that the levity of some of those in the Nubian Village centers around the denouement: "Y'all can't sell no pussy in here!" |

i see and understand both sides. I do believe tho w anything we can totally get what we put out there. Like if I wake up thinking its gonna be a bad day , u can be sure it is gonna be a bad one for me as on some level I make it bad (or worse) by my reactions and expectations. I know that people can affect others but we have to overcome and take small victories when we can. I am white and have seen discrimination as its assumed Im a member of "the club" and am often offended by peoples honesty (at times) when it comes to race issues. Growing up in detroit Ive seen example of alot of ugliness and have been known to put myself on the line to defend what i think is right. Working in management i have also had upper management deny me wanting to promote people of color. So I know it happens , although Ive always promoted who Ive wanted and come close to loosing jobs as a result of my defiance. On the other hand I do get offended when any perceived accomplishment is written off as a perk of being white and not the hard work Ive put into making it so. Ive never been handed anything. Once after a optical board state certification test i took and passed, a co worker who had 5 years to my one year in optical stated he believed I was put thru purely because of my color. He stated it as "they know who they are going to certify as you walk into the room, the test results are fraudulent"..... then he said "well, anyway Im calling for help" and asked me one of the most basic optical questions ever. Seriously it was one of the first things u learn in optical. I guess Im saying sometimes the oppression theory is just and applicable. Other times its just the easy way out. |

Yeah, it sure did take a serious turn, didn't it? The video is not serious, so the angry responses aren't really warranted, IMO. Blksoul_x, if you want to talk about white privilege and the legacy of oppression passed through generations, they are definitely serious and real... but that video is about stupid things like wearing white pants and fanny packs, loving hockey, etc. With the exception of driving through red lights (which was common back in the 80s/90s when downtown was a ghost town), it's pretty much just harmless and annoying crap. Dare I say it, I've seen some crazy hats worn by black women, and many black men sure love basketball. I guess what I'm saying is... if you want to talk about serious issues, you should attach them to serious examples. Otherwise it just seems like you're going to be pissed off no matter what, and no matter what any white person says or does you're going to hate them for being white. And that might be true, but if it is there's nothing that can ever be done about it, so why even try. |

Can somebody explain Boondocks to me? I think the show is funny as hell but I don't get it how it is tolerated. Is it a show written by blacks that therefore enjoys special license to have anti-Black racial hummor? there is no place else on TV where the script writters get to use the word "nigga" with such imputity. Is "nigga" considered less offensive thant the traditionlly spelled n-word (which I can't even bring myself to type). Even the Kilpatrick txt messages with his girlfriend had her calling him "nigga" and him calling her "niggette," so I gather from that that it's a term of endearment between two blacks, but a slur if used by a white person, which I guess makes sense. Can someone educate me on this particular nuance of pop culture. |
