I think going all the way down to D.C. on Pogo sticks would really be effective! (if not hilarious)

Detroitnerd, Good idea. An Entitlement-electric hybrid (with ego-powered range extender) would be even better and score tham political points, too. |

Yeah, but they'd probably be forced to speed the whole way. That's too much power, even for today's highways. |

Really reaching there Flanders LOL. Is that the "Senator from Honda"? I really got the feeling watching that yesterday, there isn't one person on the council qualified to question or make any decision regarding anything. "I trust you "drove" this time?" And the other asinine classic "How did you travel?, drive yourself? when are you going to return and how do you plan on getting there?" 4 Million plus jobs hang in the balance and it's pivot point is a plane ride? I mean seriously WTF? Do these people not know how foolish they sound? Those hearings comprise of 4 very talented business people being interrogated by a bunch of f*cking morons. "morans", sorry. Even Chris Dodd sounds like an idiot. |

Someone from the Topix forum posted from Washington that the Congressional parking lot had only one American car in the lot and the others were government-use cars. |

Pelosi's private jet was also parked there. You know how "green" she is. Not. |

How bout Al Bundy style in an old Dodge. We'll get there on a hope and a prayer. Or perhaps in the classic style of Motor city broke ass '73 Cutlass 4 different sized tires, lock missing from the trunk cracked windshield. Oh and don't forget a case of motor oil because its a road trip. Speaking from experience here |

^^you forgot about the red plastic bags sealed with duct tape covering the smashed taillight(s) and the rope looped around the trunk hood latch to keep the loose and rusted bumper from swinging around or falling off. The rusty muffler is held to the frame with bailing wire, and the rest of the tailpipe has rusted off, so the dented rear end is blackened from exhaust smoke. One or both of the fenders is a different color than the rest of the car or just primer. The drivers side door is crumpled shut so the passenger side door is the only means of entering or exiting the car, its missing window replaced with cardboard or a poorly positioned, duct tape sealed, and flapping 30 gallon size clear garbage bag. A coat hanger is the car's radio antenna. One of the four different size tires is a compact temporary spare that is not being used temporarily as the passenger side rear tire. The frame is bent so the front and rear wheels are off-alignment by a half-foot or so. |

In a plane, so they as spend as much time as possible focusing on how to turn their companies around. Driving 9 hours is a waste of time for a ceo of any company. |

They should ride in house speaker Nancy Polosi's Boeing 757. Oh that's right....only politicians get to spend everyone else's money. |

Flanders ... sounds like you had one of those "Classics" too! Still have a hooptie for those extreme occasions. Its a rolling violation but the damn thing still runs and its 4wd. If any auto exec wishes to borrow it I would be more then happy to lend it. They will have to buy their own case of oil though. |

And Pelosi's jet isn't Pelosi's, it belongs to the Department of Defense. She's second in line to the Presidency and it's provided for her security, just as it was for Hastert, and as they do for cabinet members' travel. |

The auto execs also did it for security. BTW Pelosi is 3rd in line. She had a smaller jet but insisted on a 757 because she thought she is so important. But when you are a democrat these things do not count. |

I agree with Dan, they should have traveled by plane. A co-worker explained it to me this way. The D3 auto-execs fly to Washington begging for a $25B loan. They get rebuffed and told not to come back by airplane. They come back the next month by car and ask for $34B. Better be glad they didn't catch the bus. |

At least they didn't bitch about how the rest of us should ride bicycles, or take buses while arriving in the private jets, like Algore. That's about the best I can say about them. |

But when you are a democrat these things do not count. The executives did it for efficiency - so they could carry a cadre of assistants and accomplish some work along the way and not be subject to the inconsistencies of traveling on Northwest/Spirit/USAirways. The only drawback was that they couldn't fly into Regan-National like they could on a scheduled airline. Pelosi is second in the line of succession, after the VP. The congressional Sergeant of Arms requested a larger aircraft for her that could make the trip to California non-stop. Even the White House thought it was appropriate. |

A. Hitchhike ( Sign that says "Washington or Bust") B. Horse ( Henry Ford said Ford would replace the horse but it looks like horses will be around way longer than Fords. C. They will probably go in a Toyota Prius -to show they know an efficient car when they see one. |

This whole 'private jet' thing is a canard. Of all the things our royal class of politicians should be scrutinizing, how the Big 3 CEO's got to DC, is the least important. I'm not saying the CEO's should have the all of the perks they have(in fact, I downright dislike the Big 3 CEO's), but our congress has ignored hundreds of billions of dollars of criminal behavior for the last decade(and our entire history), including their own, and they have the balls to question how the CEO's travel? Right. |
