What about Robin Williams? I think he was a small child or even baby, but hey.

Robin Williams lived in Bloomfield and attended Country Day.

Ed McMahon was also from Detroit.

Jgavrile, How did you save them? I downloaded the Picasa Album, and I was able to blow them up pretty large.
If you're trying to just right click and save, I don't think you'll have very good luck.

Do you have picasa on your PC? If not, you will have to download it before you can save his album. It's free and works really well.
After you download and install Picasa, reboot. It won't tell you to, but you need to.
Then, go back to the link and you will see a link 'Download Album'
Picasa will create a folder for the files.

After you download, go to your My Pictures folder and you will see a folder called Downloaded Albums. The maps will be in there.
When you double click on one of them, it will open in your default photo editting software. You should then be able to enlarge it.
Do you know what you use for photos on your PC?

If you’re interested in location... Ty Cobb’s house on Williams is approximately where the DeRoy auditorium is today, on Wayne State’s campus.

I remember hanging out with a really pretty young woman in the early 90s who lived in Ty Cobb's house on Commonwealth (or Avery). I was over there once, it was south of Lysander, but not exactly sure where. Can't for the life of me remember her name either.

The Marvin Gaye house on Outer Drive was previously owned by Marvin's brother-in-law, Berry Gordy.

This is from a previous thread, seems a guy just recently self published a book about the homes of famous Detroiters. You can get you copy through Detroit Blight Busters.

quote:
Like many people who immerse themselves in historical archives and Internet searches, the author who calls himself T. Burton turned to genealogy after a personal loss. He started researching his Motor City roots, "and then I thought, 'Gee, I wonder where this person and that person lived.' "

quote:
it was Burton who found the house where Hoffa lived when he was 14, the year he quit school to become a warehouseman for Kroger. It was Burton who found UAW President Walter Reuther's house on West Philadelphia Street, with the snout of a sedan peeking from the top of the driveway -- a roomy, American-nameplate Chrysler 300. The book includes more than 70 homes, from Archer, Dennis (on Lincolnshire in Palmer Woods) to Wonder, Stevie (on Greenlawn, south of Seven Mile).

quote:
Burton ordered 3,000 copies of "Home in Detroit" and is selling them through George's organization at www.blightbusters.org or (313) 255-4355. The price is $24.99.

He's an amateur, and it shows. Spelling errors pop up in awkward places, like the names of Elijah Muhammad and actor David Alan Grier. But the photos are crisp and the sincerity is clear.

Sounds like an interesting book that MikeM, Jjaba and the Rock need to add to their collections.

Ty Cobb lived on Commonwealth, in a duplex on the West side of the street between Alexandrine and Willis. We walked our visiting baseball fanatics Dads past there once and struck up a conversation with the friendly owner, who then invited us in for a tour and to see her collection of memorabilia.

"Sir Graves Gastly(Shock Theater) lived in an apartment building at the corner of Farand Park and Woodward in Highland Park."

Lawson Deming didn't host Shock Theater, and he would drive from Medina, Ohio every week to tape Sir Graves.

I lived in the house where the Michigan murderer lived and killed at least one girl in the basement back in the late 60s. But that was in Ypsilanti not Detroit.

I listed a great deal of architects above. Many on here will recognize their names and immediately associate them with various buildings in the area. Ironically, most of the listed architects did not live in gigantic mansions. Most lived in normal middle-class homes.
