That's about it! See ya'll in about 50 years, maybe then you all will have a modicum of common sense about how a city should operate.

Let's try abandoned urban wasteland.

Eventually, the people living here will have to die off.

I'm hoping things can change, but it's looking bleak (except for downtown Detroit).

Jb3, you act as if being an urban wasteland is a bad thing.

Why not make Detroit the best urban wasteland in the entire world?

That would be something to boast about.

"That's about it! See ya'll in about 50 years, maybe then you all will have a modicum of common sense about how a city should operate."

Sorry to see you leave.

Hopefully, in 25 years, we'll have at least a scintilla of commen sense about how a city should operate. Will you come back then? Pretty please, with sprinkles on top?

Detroit will look exactly the same in 50 years, with maybe one or two new buildings or casinos.

This is precisely Lowell's point of this website. Detroit as Acropolis on the Great Lakes.
Detroit as a National Landmark. Crank up the tour buses for Detroit Ruins National Historic Park, Michigan.

Exactly, Jjaba!

This site is not about saving Detroit -- there is no saving it -- Detroit is far past the point of saving. Thus, we should celebrate The D for being the hellhole that it is.

The city should be advertised as the shittiest place on earth. Come one! Come all! See the disaster that takes place when humankind fails spectacularly due to greed and corruption. See a modern day example of how Rome fell! Bring the kids!

Rsa is making a real effort to re-build and occupy Detroit. You don't get a title of Rock Star Architect for nuthin'. We applaude your work, paddling hard against the current.

Just like the tour buses in New Orleans or New York City, Detroit ruins do have economic value and could be a tourist attraction. That was jjaba's point.

jjaba, Fan of Rsa.

The problem is that most visit NYC or NO for other purposes and may do a sidetrip to WTC or Kat damage. I don't think many would visit Detroit just to see ruins. Why? They can all do that in their hometowns as well.

I like Detroit, actually. In fact, I love it. But I like it just fine as it is, a hilarious hellhole.

And I'm a realist and know Detroit will never be anymore than it is. Well, not in my lifetime anyway. Therefore, I love it the way it is, the way one loves an ugly stepchild or one-eyed kitten.

That was low....making fun of someone who has only one eye!
Nice to see that many on this thread see Detroit for what it truly is...beyond saving, other than downtown which won't be thriving for very long without people with good incomes in the residential areas surrounding it. It is nice to dream that Detroit can be saved, but realistically, let's face it, it is an impossible dream.

Maybe get the people that are left in Detroit, condense them in a smaller space, bulldoze the outskirts and make farmland of it.

But I think Detroit can rise again. Maybe an honest mayor, better schools, and a better attitude will lead to an improved reputation.

Honestly, there's a problem in a city as big as Detroit when you can buy a decent 4 BR house for less than a used car.

It's hard to be positive when there are so many negatives one after another. Take the school story today as another example.
I enjoyed a weekend in Detroit two weeks ago but I could never live in the city again.

No Exmotowner...

Just a rash of forumers starting a bunch of dumbass threads. This one isn't even worth replying to... just more of the urban/suburban "mine is better than yours" mentality...

Been there, done that... yawn... :-(

I agree with PaulMcall. I could never live in Detroit City again. I lived there for 3.5 years. I did my tour of duty. And it was sort of fun slumming it while I was young and single. But there's no way now that I'm a respectable, responsible adult with a family.

Gistok, it's not about mine is better than yours... it's about yours could be really nice too if you gave a fuck and had an ounce of self respect to make your city a better place instead of wallowing in the muck.

"I Agree, 'This thread is headed towards an urban wasteland'."

You really think? I believe this thread is really shedding some light on important issues not raised in other threads. Add in the requisite chest-thumping, puffery, baseless assertions and generalizations, I think we're really going somewhere here.

And, in that light, I say please, for the sake of the collective knowledge of this forum and its dedicated participants, carry-on. Carry-on. Just please, carry-on.

Grumpy, I doubt anyones makin fun of me. If they were they can kiss my ass.

BTW, I have two eyeballs, one just doesnt work so well. The patch is gone as I got sick of looking like a pirate, trying to live with the blury one eye and the one good one. The kids loved the patch though, that was cool.

How do you know me king, besides on this forum??
