This place is way over rated. We went last night and it is nowhere near the level of Opus One, Seldom Blues, The Coach Insignia etc. The atmosphere is stiff, the service not on par with the aforementioned restaurants. My food was very good and the plate lovely but my husbands was over cooked they ruined the lobster and scallops. $39 bucks and they give you a free dessert and no floor manager says a word to you. AAA needs to revisit that 4 diamond rating. I think the other places deserve it more than Iridescence does. Anyone else have a thought on Iridescence? |

Went there for my birthday twice and loved it/ Food was great, as was the service, and the chef came out and talked to us |

What did you expect? Iradescence is in a casino. Casinos always have massively overpriced, half-empty big-name restaurants with bad food. They're loss leaders that get people in the door. Casino restaurants cannot be compared to regular restaurants. 80% of their clientele are comped. The chefs they advertise are just paid shills. They're never in the kitchen. |

That's not true, Chef Hightower, thier 'shill' came out of the kitchen to my table, spoke to us, and brought me a gift of a box of cookies. |

What about the view there!? It's amazing. What do you think of the restaurants at MGM, Crawford? I'm excited to try them if I ever can afford it. They look so nice, especially Michael Mina's seafood restaurant. I've only been to the buffet, which is the nicest one I've ever been to. |

I have been to Wolfgang Puck's. It's massively overpriced and not very good (thankfully my employer paid). I hear Iradescence has slightly better food than Puck's but similarly ridiculously priced. I have not been to Michael Mina's place, but I hear it's much better. It's probably the best restaurant in the Detroit casinos. I wouldn't trust the newspaper reviews of the casino restaurants. The papers need the casino advertising. |

Sec, perhaps you just had a rare, bad experience. I've dined there on a number of occasions. The wait staff was very informed. Service was great. Never had to ask for anything. The food was even better. I had the sugar cane crusted scallops for an appetizer. Simply divine. They melted in your mouth. I've never had a better scallop. For my entree, I had the "Bounty of Seafood" which included Chilean sea bass, lobster tail, shrimp and scallops. Again, a very wonderful course. The dessert sent me to heaven. I had the sampler plate which consisted of a Godiva milkshake, cheesecake lollipop, tiramisu, chocolate souffle, and a chocolate peanut butter ice cream sandwich. I look forward to my next visit. |

Methinks you are connected to the restaurant. If that isn't a shill post, I don't know what is. |

Well, then we both are because I agree with him on the quality of the food, and there was a previous thread about this same subject where I waxed quite poetic about my meal there in February. |

No, I am in no way affiliated with Motor City Casino or Iridescence. I've just had pleasant experiences dining there. I am, however, in the industry and appreciate good service and excellent food. |

Try them again. I've always believed in that. Wolfgang's was ok. Lots of people there. My steak was too rare for my liking (i know.... steaks should be rare) at the waiters advice, so when I commented on that to the host/maitre'd, he sent us a free dessert. Chocolate Souffle. Unbelievably good. My girls food looked real good also. You know these casino's sucked up all the talent in Detroit for their restaurants. Andiamo took a huge hit in kitchen staff because the casinos threw a bunch of money at their chefs. So you're dining on the bests' meals in the city. |

There is one very strange problem with Iridescense: The worst place to sit is at a window table. Inexplicably, there is a wall that comes up to about chin level blocking your view. Why in the world would someone design a "restaurant with a view" when the view is so restricted? |

You know, I found that problem to be true. Thankfully I'm 6'3" so it wasn't that big of an issue for me. But I think sitting at one of the half circular tables on the opposite side of the aisle (on an elevated ledge) would provide better views. |

I did post on chowhound and trip advisor cause I am pissed that this silly place has that 4 diamond rating. Bourbon Steak which is also in a casino was fabulous when we went there in June. They were 4 diamond dining. So is the Coach. I just think that since it is seemingly so geared to the comp people the rating should go away. I am also writing and calling AAA. I left a message at Iridescence but surprise no response yet. We have eaten all over the country and this joint does not do the job. |

Sec, give it up. Really. You had one bad experience. AAA isn't going to revoke their rating just because of you. And if you're bitching about a $39 entree, maybe you shouldn't be eating there to begin with. |

did Iridescence replace the LaShish location in the Motor City casino? |

When did Motor City have a LaShish? Iridescense has been there since the beginning. It used to be just off the gaming floor, and is now upstairs in the hotel. |

Crawford, I hate the casino atmosphere as much as anyone, but the restaurant could still be legitimately great while being in a casino. While you or I may not very much enjoy even great food in/near a casino setting, others may not be sensitive to the location and could certainly enjoy it, unlike Sec106. Sec, I would either try another dish, or go someplace less expensive and tastier in the City...we have tons of restaurants. |

I have no problem with the price, I have paid more for a dish and have been perfectly happy thank you very much. I just think for that kind of place if there is a problem it should be addressed a little better. I love all our tasty restaurants here in Detroit. This is the first time I have been disappointed. |

Sec, Restaurant reviewers go to a place more than once, to make sure one off dish doesn't skew their report. A four star rating is based on more than one dish. |

Malcovemagnesia, MotorCity did have a LaShish - when the place first opened. The deli next door eventually expanded into it. (This was a Matt Prentice's deli back then, FYI) And Iridescence was indeed located next to LaShish in the original configuration. Of course, all is different now. |
