I'm looking for a new flat cap since my current one is getting old and worn out. You know the kind of hat worn by boys & men in the early 1900s, sheep herders, cab drivers, etc. A lot of department stores I've looked at only have baseball hats, bowlers, derbies, etc. A Burlington Coat Factory had a small selection, but none of those that they had there caught my eye. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

"boys & men" Boyz II Men? Have you tried Henry the Hatter (Broadway & Gratiot in downtown Detroit)? (Message edited by DetroitRise on August 06, 2008) |

Those are called newsboy caps. Very popular back in the day. In the 20s they were often called Babe Ruth caps. They fall in and out of fashion, but I would think that if HTH doesn't have a few in stock they can certainly pull up a selection online and special-order one. |

No, I didn't try any of the Henry the Hatter stores. Thank you both. I'll have to hit HTH up tomorrow and see what they have. Thanks again. |

There is a hat store on Gratiot also - I'll be damned if I can remember the name of the place at the moment, though. |

There is only one place for hats: Henry the Hatter. Babe Ruth, Joe Louis and Kid Rock have all bought their hats from Henry. Broadway at Gratiot. |

Here's a pic of my great grandfather Issac Fromberg wearing said cap. He was one of the first Goodfellows Old Newsboys.

Oh yeah, that one (on Gratiot & Bessemore) should have the hat too, although the last time I went by there, it wasn't open. |

Some years ago I went to HTH for that exact type of hat (newsboy) and found them pretty expensive there. I cant remember where I finally found one, I believe it was just some random mall which I rarely go in. I left mine in the Majestic after seeing one to many others wearing one. I didnt want it anymore. It is a very cool cap no matter. |
