Don't want to rain on Mary Waters' victory party, but the Detroit precincts are always the last to report. I'm afraid Butt Cheeks is gonna pull this one out, possibly by a surprisingly healthy cushion. Hope I'm wrong, of course. I heard Kilpatrick spent $500K and Waters just $10K on this campaign. |

Should Scott or Waters have dropped out? Wouldn't that have essentially guaranteed a CCK defeat? |

You gotta wonder which Detroit precincts have reported yet. If SW or the Waters old state rep district haven't come in yet, she still has a good chance. |

Pretty much as I thought. Waters and Scott are splitting the vote. Had Scott not run, we might have something to talk about. As it is, Detroit is always the last to report. CCK will likely pull this one out. |

What voting system is used in Detroit? Is there a uniform system across the state? I've been voting absentee for the last 10 years. |

We mostly rely on the ever-popular "golly, there was a power failure at the precinct just before candidate X made his/her come-from-behind charge to the lead" system.. It's old fashioned, but it gets the job done.. (Am I the only one wanting to go out and smack Martha Scott upside the head right about now?) |

As I remember in the election of 2004, there were absentee ballots that were not counted until 24 - 48 jours later in Detroit. If the absentee ballots can't be counted until election and a full 20% of Voters use absentee, then it might be really close. That is if they actually count the absentee. Also absentee ballots must be postmarked by the day of election, so they might get there the day after election. |

If Kwame's Mommy actually DOES win, do we all get to smack Gnome (or the Mrs?) next time we see 'em?

Question..is there anything preventing Waters from running as an independent in the actual election? Not my district, but if it were, she'd get my vote on the "anyone but another Kilpatrick" platform.. And if that's not a possibility, how about we have an honest conversation about the Republican candidate? (Message edited by ZRX Doug on August 06, 2008) |

“The residents of Detroit are speaking tonight,” Just what I always suspected. The suburban(white) vote doesn't matter to Kwame's mommy. You have to love the bastardization of the Voting Rights Act whereby no matter how many people leave Detroit, there are still two automatic Detroit seats in Congress. Gerrymandering is a wonderful thing! |
