This has been bugging me like hell since I first noticed it a few weeks ago.

Why are the city lights on during the day!?

It is such a waste of energy.

I thought this would be a discussion about Charlie Chaplin films at the Redford, or something...

sometimes it's because a public lighting crew is scheduled to be working on that area 'soon' (replace lights, diagnose non working poles, etc.). So public lighting will turn the circuit ON until the crew reports back that they are finished with their task. When this is the case it can mean they are on for a week+ since coordinating the exact time the crew will be in the area is far fetched.

We wondered why the lights on the Belle Isle Bridge were on when we drove across around 4pm this afternoon....

The lights on East Jefferson have been on for weeks. In addition, the stench from the sewers between Alter & Newport is unbelievable. What causes this?

The lights at Comerica Park are on sometimes during the day!

This might be a lot to ask but... Has Detroit replaced lights with the energy efficient lights?

That could save the CIty Tens of Thousands of Dollars!

Funny how they put reproductions of the old Bishop style streetlights on Woodward over 8 mile. This was a design used from the late 1800s through the early teens and feature the bowling pin on top of the pole. The Woodward Bridge over 8 Mile dates from the early 50s. Still, it looks much better than it used to.

Fort St. in the city seems to be a disaster when it comes to streetlights. Half of the reason the street is so dark is that there just aren't very many lights there to begin with... they get hit or sidewalk replaced and new lights don't go in. How does that make sense?
