I know Don Davis is probably a common name but does anyone know if this is the same guy who was listed on KK's Detroit Justice Fund and part of First Independence Bank? http://detnews.com/apps/pbcs.d ll/article?AID=/20080818/METRO 01/808180414 |

OK, per Crain's, he's the same guy... "...Queen Lillian is headed by Christopher Jackson, a consultant and former managing partner of Greektown Casino, and Donald Davis, chairman of First Independence Bank..." |

quote:So a park will be destroyed for a surface parking lot... yes and no. At least originally it was required that the developers were required to create a park/community greenspace in another part of the city to offset the loss of theis park/green space. |

Look at the grand scheme of things. Children's Hospital is one of Detroit's Jewels. It is among the best Children's Hospitals in the world. Investing in hospitals is a wise investment. These serve not only Detroiters, but serve as a magnet to bring people into town who would never set foot here. The medical sector is also one of the few groth sectors. This should help diversify the economy. I hope they use the revenue to mow the existing parks more, or put a few more emergency (police, fire, ems) personel on the payroll. PART of Tolan Park. It would be a shame to get rid of that much-used park, but I guess the park space will just be used more efficiently now. Quantity isn't always quality when it comes to parks. It's less for the City to upkeep, and enables Children's to do something great (though the thought of more surface parking sucks). We have a ton of hardly-used park space around the city. Think Forest Park near Sweetest Heart of Mary Church (where Russell St. is mindlessly blocked)-- it's basically urban prarie that the City has to pay to mow. |

I deeply resent the sale of any parkland by the City of Detroit. It has pretty much been established that our elected officials are for sale. Most don't know the city other then their own back yard (which they seem to protect quite well). A big problem I have with the sale of parks is that in many cases these park lands were donated by private individuals to be used as "recreation only" open spaces. It is easy for the city to to make side deals when area residents don't have the financial means to protect these parks via the legal system. I have seen private waterfront lands sold by the city to developers for a mere pittance. One developer got 17.5 acres of an eastside island for a mere $128,000. There were 7 identified wetlands, deemed insignificant by the Engler administration. However remediation was still required. The remediation never was done. No follow up, of course, to right this wrong. I am curious however, what's the current price tag to buy a local politician? |

We'd get more money and the buyers would have clear title if we auctioned off our politicians publicly. |

Yes, Don Davis is the same, West Bloomfield resident, owner of First Independent Bank, a software leasing company AND founding member of the Detroit JustUs Fund. This c----sucker is the straw in the drink around here. Oh, yeah, he wants to be the bond writer for the Tunnel Deal. |
