I'll agree, and to spend the remaining $1, throw in a People Mover ride to the Riverwalk. Grand Circus Park to Renaissance Center, and back

If you are friends with the ladies at The Checker bar $5 is enough for the Metro Times' best burger in town!

Generally though it is a couple bucks more.

Isn't a Hot N' Ready $5.49 now?

$6.49 in Saginaw, Flint, or Toledo. Condiments are extra.

Telway Hamburgers on Mich Ave near Livernois.

You'll get 4 hamburgers, the best coffee in the city, chili and fries for around $4.50

Take your remaining $.50 and buy some Rolaids.

Downtown it's a couple of beers in the Boardroom after sneaking out of the office at three for an, ahem, client meeting. On the west side it was fresh bread from a bakery on Warren or Uke kielbasa at European Meats on Michigan. East side? I don't know... maybe a couple of houses...

Lunch at Mike's Pita & Grill at Eastern Market. Lunch special: sandwich (Patty Melt, burger, cheeseburger, coneys, etc.) fries and a pop for $5. (not including tip, but still a good deal) Made in front of you on their seasoned grill. Also great breakfasts there! MMMmmmm.

Man, I second LibDem and Blksoul.
First off, best damn coffee ever at Telway.
Second, make that Sweet BBQ and Classic Lotto.
Detroit is seriously fucked up but a little goes a long way when you're easy to please.
We need to market these strengths.

I'd have to agree that the Better Mades and the Faygo are good buys. We need to support the local brands that provide local jobs.

Heck, anything that keeps the money cycling in the local economy is good by me. THis way we can turn that $5 into $20.

So to each his/her own...

3 Double Cheeseburgers and 2 McChickens and order two large icewaters to really impress a lady on your first date. You then allow her to pay for the $.25 "tip" which actually goes to the State of Michigan, and is only 6% as opposed to the 15-20% you're expected to shell out at other snobbyville-type establishments.

"... and then, give the 'loose change' ($.21) to the brotha outside of the liquor store."

Now I know I don't live in blksoul's hood, 'cause everybody in my neighborhood with 21 cents left over wants to hit the exact 21-cent combination with bubble gums, swishers or loosies. It's fun to watch them walk down the street and see the cellophane and chip bags float behind them.

Spitty, McDonalds is raising the price on their "$1.25 menu", so you can't buy too much of that stuff for $5 anymore.

Dno't forget to take in effect sales tax (like Sean did with a Hot 'N Ready).

Defnitely a crepe from Good girls Go To Paris Crepe shop on John-R and Woodward... $4 gets you a banana/nutella crepe and you'd have $1 left over for coffee.
