http://www.clickondetroit.com/ news/17278287/detail.html Apparently they're not giving up on Detroit yet, but surely the store's insurance company must be doing quite a lot of strong suggesting. p.s. the cops show up very quickly |

That's sad. DPD should be walking the beat in that area. Police department is only three blocks away. (Woodward and Grand Blvd) <313> |

Hey, a single store getting robbed three times in the span of about eight months could happen anywhere. This just as easily could have happened in Bloomfield Hills or Birmingham. Don't act like it's just a Detroit problem. |

I have known about this story for awhile - unfortunately, he has a very high value target for the majority community that can be easily moved. Since they haven't caught anybody, I'm going to guess it's the same people hitting him up multiple times. That's what happened in a neighborhood of a friend who caught a scrapper copper-handed; scrapping for a two-mile radius stopped for months. |

The Ditrich family will never give up on the city. Even that their store been robbed 6,000 times a year. My grandmother worked from them at their family mansion in Bloomfield Hills for 30 years and they had supported my family in the process. Keep the store open, Ditrich. 115 years in Detroit and they never give up. |

The perpetrators were seen wearing the furs while ice skating and riding a horse down Third Avenue. |

There is virtually no law and order in Detroit anymore. We have had rampant crime for decades but now there is virtual anarchy. This city is not a practical or even functional place to live or do business anymore. This city cannot survive on poor people and Detroit die-hards alone, which is essentially what it is reduced to. Your business may get chronically robbed, your church get its roof stolen, and no patrol cars available while you cower in your closet while your stuff gets stolen, but the mayor keeps it real and we've got an African Town on the way. |

Digitalvision has it right, it's probably the same guys over & over again. A high-value target like this needs a solid security system including cameras. The same would be true in NYC and other large city centers. |

I am sick and tired and disgusted at the people in this city who continue to not give a care in the world about their own city and continue to tear it apart and now what you ultimately have is the majority of the city looking like crap. Face it, some people in the city just do not care and their only purpose in this city is to mooch off whatever resources they can without contributing anything to society. Truthfully, I dont care how many times the place has been targeted! Let Dittrichs take their wealth to a city in which the residents can actually afford them. Its disrespectful to have symbols of wealth in the face of crushing poverty and despair. Hopefully the thieves arent destroying themselves with a drug habit. |

So Detroit shouldn't have stores because there are people here who can't afford to buy stuff? That's your solution? I'm as bleeding-heart as anybody, but that post was seriously full of shit. |

Yes Bearinabox I strongly feel that way. I just do not care! How many workers does the store employ? Dittrichs has Insurance no? A resale-thrift shop is more practical. Be thankful those smash and grabs dont happen more often. Bearinabox that store is located not far from extreme crushing poverty and dispair on Seward at Woodward-Second etc. Im not budging. Way too much unfairness in our economic system-Ive encountered too many wage concessions (why do we always have to 'just find another industry or job') great hustle. Wish I had the nerve. |
