I think another Detroit Picture thread needs to get going. Like the last one from long ago post pictures of the city that you like. I know there are a lot of people who shoot the city so theres no reason for this not to be a daily thing. Heres one I shot recently. I was asked to shoot the Crains Detroit House Party and DetroitMakeItHere.com launch party at the MGM. This is a photo I particularly liked from one of the house parties I crashed and photographed. Enjoy. http://www.flickr.com/photos/s outhen/2882426488/ |

Nice photo, as usual, Southen. Level horizon. How come every time I take a photo showing a horizon it's running either north or south? (Ah. Don't shatter my image of you by saying "Photoshop"..........) |

Haha. Actually that shot was level coming straight out of the camera. Others are fixed using a photo program whose name I will not be saying for fear of ruining my image. |

The posting parameters on DY are too constrained to do my photos justice! Maybe as links but people don't seem to want to click on links. If you want to see some beautiful urban shots on a website similar to DY go to then scroll down and select either "Houston Photos" or "Historic Houston" and get ready for some breathtaking shots: http://www.houstonarchitecture .info/haif/index.php It's not that we don't have great photographers because we do with Lowell, dETROITfUNK, DetroitBlog, etc. but we can't post them in a way that showcases them on our site. Se la vi! |

People do click links. For instance my photo today has gotten 150 hits from DY. I wouldnt not post a photo for fear of people not clicking your links. |

Here are a few beauty shots of our fair city that I took in the last couple weeks: View over merchant's row at night. Capitol Park on a rainy night. View looking down Michigan Ave. over Griswold. Kids playing in the firehydrant at Nebraska & Lawton. (Message edited by gsgeorge on September 23, 2008) |

Great shots, all. Here are mine for those of you that haven't seen 'em. I won't have many fresh Detroit photos for a while because of my change of venue... I'm glad to have all of your photos in addition to mine to remember home. (Message edited by mackinaw on September 25, 2008) |

Thanks for restarting the photo thread, Southen. I have always enjoyed your work and have learned a lot from it. The one thing I have learned is that you take a damn good snap my friend! I am currently trying to work in some camera time along with all of the other things that are going on in my crazy life. Right now I am digging through a collection of Kodachrome transparencies of downtown Detroit taken from the 40's through about 1968. (Would you have a film reader I could use?). Any how, if any one is interested, I will post them when I can have them transferred to a readable media. Teaser: (among others) I have photos of Kern's as it is being demolished, all in glorious Kodachrome! (Message edited by Bulletmagnet on September 25, 2008) |

Thanks Mortalman. I use a 7MP Sony DSC-V3. I also use the photomerge in Photoshop Elements. I think I need a filter to flatten my camera's fisheye effect when I use photomerge for panoramas. Amen Fareastsider. There's a person on the Skyscraper page website that has uploaded lots of old color slides of NYC at high res.. VERY nice! |

Great shots as always, Southen. And congrats on your burgeoning career. Best of luck! When you are famous some day, I can say I was a fan of your photos from the beginning! Detroit_signal, thanks for your contributions. I was wondering if you were still around. Gsgeorge, I love your shots, especially the nighttime MCS one. |
