Didn't see a thread on this elsewhere. Just thought it was interesting ..... this is his first time on the list.

Net worth estimated at $1.5B. His net worth was calculated at $600M when Forbes did their infamous "Troll Under the Bridge" article about 5 years ago. Forbes tends to be conservative in their calculations when considering privately owned companies.

Overall, 5 Detroiters and 10 Michiganders made the list. Hit the link:

^I believe they're in the business of manufacturing hospital beds and other medical equipment.

They're located somewhere in the middle of the state.

$1.5 billion. That might be enough to board up a few windows at his MC Depot.

$1.5 billion... That's certainly enough to leverage a few hundred million dollar loan to demolish/rehab the train station. Out of curiosity, what other properties does Matty own around town, and how many are vacant?

I think the only reason he owns MCS is to frustrate the efforts of the DRTP to run trucks through the disused rail tube of the Detroit River tunnel, which runs right behind MCS.

Matty likes the residents of Corktown to wake up every morning and see a giant rotting hulk, to remind them no matter how much work they put into their community, they are still in a dying city.

Stryker also makes artificial hips and knees. If you go to a hospital, they make dammed near half the stuff in one. With medical being a growing business, this company is well suited for the future.

This 80's plus Matty Moroun, who although is a well known business personality over the years is still reclusive as has been said by Detroit business publications.
Why would a person having 1.6 Billion plus in mostly private held companies, no stockholders to answer to, Let a building like the MCS, train station, rot. People in the corktown area have to live with this eyesore.
How is he able to get away with this. Why is no one looking at this problem along with the illegal taking of our Detroit Park property.

How is he able to get away with it?! Really? The city wouldn't dare to take him to court. They'd go broke suing him. How can he get away with it? Let me count, for your, the 1.5 billion ways...

I used to work for him at what was then Central Transport and Central Cartage on 6 Mile Road back in the early 70's. Everyone around the terminal called him "Manny", (short for his real first name "Manuel"), not "Matty". When did the Matty reference start, and why? Used to give me the jitters just walking by his corner office. At that time his father "T.J." was still living and active in the business.
