I can't belive no one posted this.
Six Wayne County commissioners want Chairwoman Jewel Ware step aside while the Auditor General investigates her office. Ware has allegations of hiring no-show workers and making workers do personnel things for her.

A letter was sent from Commissioner Laura Cox asking that Ms. Ware step aside until the investigation is completed in December.

It was signed by Laura Cox of Livonia, Burton Leland of the northwest Detroit, Joseph Palamara of Downriver, Ilona Varga DelRay and Lincoln Park, Gary Woronchak of Dearborn and Melvindale and Keith D. Williams of Detroit from 8 mile to Tireman.

She hires a couple of ex-cons, puts them on the County Payroll, but in real life they run a resort up in Idlewild owned by Ms. Ware.

Can't make this shit up.

quote:

Two men at the center of an alleged Wayne County Commission no-show employee scandal worked at a resort lounge owned by commission Chairwoman Jewel Ware.

But the men -- convicted felons -- said Tuesday they did so only on their own time, and not on the dime of Wayne County taxpayers.

Yes Bobby, same place. Sorry for taking so long to respond.

A few updates:
Uesday, Nov 18, 2008 our old friend Malik Shabazz & Co. jammed the County Commision Chambers calling the charges against Jewel Ware " A racist attack".

http://www.detnews.com/apps/pb cs.dll/article?AID=20088111903 64

But wait there's more funa and games and charges of racisim and
quote:

If anyone has charges they want to make, they should step forward with their claims rather than use the so-call mainstream press. They should come forward with their evidence," Shabazz said. "If you're going to investigate one, why not investigate all? Do all of the commissioners live in the district? Do they actually live in Detroit or do they live in Lansing?"

That raised the ire of Burton Leland.

"My constituents know who I am, where I live and the color of my skin. Reverend, get a real job," Leland said.

But wait, this silly tale gets stupider...Jewel Ware's husband ... the guy that ran the hotel up in Idelwyld is arrested after being on the lam for 21 years! True. I'm not making this up. Plus, the guy is a higher up in the BING Campaign! No shit.

quote:

As Wayne County Commission Chairwoman Jewel Ware fights for her political life, the man at the center of the controversy -- her husband, Jesse Long-Bey -- fights for his freedom. Again.

Wanted on a 21-year-old warrant, Long-Bey appeared in 36th District Court on Wednesday on a check-kiting charge and "reached a mutual agreement ... to step away" from the campaign of Detroit mayoral candidate Dave Bing, according to Bing spokesman Cliff Russell.

Your Tax dollars are hard at work in Wayne County.

Wayne County chair paid ex-cons with tax dollars, report finds
Prosecutor's Office to weigh in on possible charges

quote:

Updated at 12:04 p.m.
Jewel Ware, the chairwoman of the Wayne County Commission, hired two ex-convicts and paid them with county funds even though no evidence could be found that they performed any duties for Wayne County, an audit of the county’s hiring and payroll practices revealed today.

...
quote:

Ware did not attend a meeting of the commission’s audit committee today when Mayo went over the report. Her administrative director, Bill Johnson, declined to comment on the report or its findings.

“I have had contact with the state Attorney General’s criminal division, with the Michigan State Police and the FBI, and I expect within a matter of days, FBI will submit a request for subpoena for relevant information,” he said. “In light of that situation, it probably would not be appropriate for me to comment.”

If they're ex-cons it doesn't matter. People should be allowed to serve their time and re-enter society. That part irks me.
If they weren't doing their jobs then charge them.

Vas, are you really missing the issue, here? If the allegations are true, it doesn't matter if they are ex-cons or not. To have someone on the payroll not working for the country is payroll fraud plain and simple. Who in the world was arguing that ex-cons shouldn't be allowed to re-enter society?

Lmich,
I've gotten the point and said that people should be charged if they were engaging in fraud. That's the point. You said it yourself, '..it doesn't matter if they are ex-cons or not...'
So why are the newspapers emphasizing it? Why are you arguing with me when you agree with this point?
