I was so hoping it was the Westside site, but this is great, too. |

Great news, though I don't understand it whatsoever. A 600.000 square foot studio would (I believe) be the largest in North America, MUCH larger than anything in NYC or Toronto (to say nothing of Hollywood). How exactly does this make sense? Even if Michigan is competing on price, what's to stop Ohio (for example) from offering even more generous incentives? That said, Taubman usually knows what he's doing, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. |

That's been the $1 million dollar question, Crawford, and no one has been willing or able to answer it. I wouldn't doubt, though, that if anyone tries to give away more of the store than us that there are emergency plans to let people make movies here for free. lol |

Being first to actually build and open a studio is a huge advantage. It gives us a leg up on the "competition". |

PONTIAC!yes, yes, yes. This is big.Maybe they need a big empty space for some of the filming.Like a certain empty building on Opdyke and M-59?There is also a huge flat piece of land at Woodward and South Blvd. that has Pontiacwood written all over it.... |

Hollywood is comming to Michigan. Looks like those rich media folks don't like what the Californians are doing to their land and resources. Michigan is where is it. The next Hollywood. |

Cool! I used to work at Centerpoint TPC-E. What a tremendous waste on GM's part. This facility was built brand spanking new for us in 1996 and completely abandoned by 2003. I am glad that someone will put this office space to use and remove some of the blight that is prevelant in that area. |

Were all the workers at Centerpoint transferred to Warren or was that a different consolidation? |

Yah, the ones that were not laid off, forced into retirement or fired were X ferred to Warren. Before 1999 GM's Truck group was autonomous. Ever since they were merged into the Car group.. it was never good after that. |

http://online.wsj.com/article/ SB123362088593641587.html "Michigan began offering tax incentives several years ago to lure film makers away from Hollywood. But since then, the competition has increased, as states from New Mexico to Louisiana have put together their own incentive packages and added movie and television production facilities and trained local workers. Rhode Island and Georgia now offer their own incentives. That has forced states like Michigan to try to find ways to sweeten the pot to maintain momentum in its efforts to build up an industry from scratch. The state isn't contributing cash to the facility's construction. But it is offering $15 million in film-related tax credits, plus as much as $101 million in state tax credits over 12 years, if hiring goals among other criteria, are met." |

"That has forced states like Michigan to try to find ways to sweeten the pot...." Damn! Why do all these other states have to steal our thunder? For years they (Southern states) would boast their superiority over us because they have right to work laws, and people willing to work for less money. Why can't they be happy with the jobs they all ready stole? |
