Only 7th? Somebody else (or maybe it was Forbes earlier) had it much higher.

Weather and commute times are really subjective criteria, though.

Lilpup,
Detroit was number one on last years (Forbes)list. I guess Detroit got less miserable or the other cities got more miserable.

Maybe people in Miami will want to move to Buffalo or Detroit now - or really move up and head to Flint.

What an idiotic list. High income taxes (as opposed to deficient public services) make people miserable? What nonsense! Forbes is trash.

I find all such "lists" as idiotic. Which makes their authors.......well, never mind.

Now I really don't believe anything from these lists anymore. Chicago is the third most miserable? Get outta here.

And Flint is the sixth most miserable? They probably haven't even visited the city. We have street lights that work, garbage collection weekly, one of the best hospitals in the country, two world class universities, and a bunch of nice people. Silly me, I don't mind living in Flint. If it wasn't for Roger Smith's decision to produce vehicles in third world countries to avoid the wages and unions, we wouldn't be on anybody's most miserable list.

Forbes lists are nuts!

Chicago is windy, cold and traffic jammed.

That would make me miserable.

"Only 7th?"

Hey -- at least Michigan has two cities in the top ten! ;)

"Detroit was number one on last years (Forbes)list. I guess Detroit got less miserable or the other cities got more miserable."

Naw, the miserable people left the state when they lost their jobs and had to find work/be miserable somewhere else; thus dropping D-Town down a few notches. ;)

There seems to be near-universal agreement on that. Makes you wonder why people keep starting threads on them.

Congratulations Detroit.

You are NOT #1, for a change, in one of these lists.

Looks like progress to me!

"But look at what city placed 3rd."

Ah yes, out come the Chicago haters. As if Detroit can compete with Chicago in quality of life. Not even in the same league. Please!

Also amazing that Cleveland placed 4th. That town is similar to Detroit in size, but Cleveland seems to have more going on in the neighborhoods. I visited there recently and loved it.

oh, please - half of those are on there due to weather

between weather, sports teams, taxes, and real estate, New York City should be on there, too

yes, Detroit was number 1 in these rankings last year. These Forbes lists are so ridiculously stupid and yet each time one comes out it continues to provide me with joy when we come out looking even slightly less terrible by their estimates than we did the previous year. Here's my story from last year, http://www.detroitarmy.com/200 8/01/forbes-magazine-rates-det roit-as-number.html
