KK met with the business community before his resignation. Obviously the fruits of that meeting are beginning to ripen.

May 17, 2008
"He certainly should not resign, because he's the best we have,"
http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs .dll/article?AID=/20080517/BUS INESS06/805170334

WJR
Karmanos said he didn't think the Kwame Kilpatrick text messaging scandal was a big distraction to the city's development, saying "it doesn't matter one bit" to him. He said he'd had one brief phone conversation with Kilpatrick since the scandal broke in which he expresed his sympathy.

Newsweek
"To me, the only thing he's guilty of at this point is having some kind of relationship outside his marriage with his chief of staff," Peter Karmanos Jr., chairman and CEO of business software maker Compuware Corp., told NEWSWEEK. "It's not a crime to have an affair. It may be against some people's morals, but it doesn't affect his ability to do business one bit." Karmanos publicly scolded Kilpatrick after the scandal broke, saying he needed to "grow up." Now he is taking a conciliatory tone. "With all the talent he has," says Karmanos, "it would be a shame to see it wasted because he acted in an immature and improper fashion."

My favorite, which summed up everything

People please, take a deep breath, relax, and calm down. We cant change the past. Kwame is no longer our mayor, that's a good thing. He will no longer be living here, again, good thing. He has a means to pay his restitution, good thing. Some of our weaker counsel members have been exposed, good thing. We collectively are paying more attention to our elected leaders, and holding them accountable, good thing. We are healing and moving on, good thing!

I for one am immediately going to sell my Compuware stock (admittedly modest) and I'm going to send a letter explaining my disgust with this hire. Any publicly traded company that would hire a convicted felon who is currently under investigation by a grand jury for additional crimes for anything other than a mail room clerk really needs to have its judgment questioned.

My wife works for Covisant and has heard of this rumor since last fall when Pete and KK had their meeting. Together, we have run the gamut of how to interpret this move and I, for one, do not feel qualified to question the decisions of a billionaire. Let's see how it plays out and deal strictly with facts, not with the speculation that typically permeates and defines this board.

I want to see if Dennis Archer resigns as a director on the Compuware board. Recently Dennis stated, as a director, that there were no plans to hire the dis-honorable KK.
I will lose respect for Dennis if he does not resign from the board.

So where does Dallas fit in? There's no Compuware-Covisint location there.

(yet, anyway...is someone thinking of moving?)

I thought Kwame would make his way to Crawford, TX and sit on the porch with the former President Bush where they could ruminate on how they bankrupted and brought to ruin their respective political constituencies. That would be a full time job for both of them.

This does not surprise me at all.

Here's the thing...

Many in the big business community think that Kwame was in the right.

Why? Well, Beatty was a thing on the side (which many powerful people have and is accepted) and the police chief was his subordinate. So in their world, he was more than right in eliminating his subordinate.

p.s. - Don't boycott businesses that had nothing to do with it. In this tough economy you're just hurting the owners (some corporate, some not) as much as the employees who are on the margin they're going to have to lay off when you stop spending your money.

I heard he's heading up their new text messaging division. Just kidding.

Good riddance to KK. Detroit will be better off.

And Karmanos gets what he deserves. I just wouldn't want to be one of the people laid off so Kwame can collect a fat paycheck!

I don't begrudge Mr. Kilpatrick a job. But there are dozens of question marks about this one. The position almost certainly has to be in government relations or sales. Is Covisint actually expecting him to produce or is he just going to warm a seat and attend meetings in exchange for a salary? Can an employee with Mr. Kilpatrick's background really effectively represent a company to the government or to customers? If the position is in sales, it would be quite interesting to find out the compensation package being paid to a 39 year old former mayor with zero sales experience.

Mr. Karmanos is clearly a very loyal friend. He is also no dummy and he certainly knows that Mr. Kilpatrick is a target of a federal government corruption investigation. What is the exit strategy in the event of an indictment? And even more to the point, what are Compuware shareholders and potential investors to think about the Board Chairman's judgment if it comes to pass that the chairman's rehabilitation project has to request a couple years of vacation so he can visit a prison camp in West Virginia? Financially, it seems it would be better for Compuware to pay off Mr. Kilpatrick's restitution and avoid the risk to its share price.

What makes anybody think that he is actually going to show up at the office and do anything? This is nothing but a no-show political payoff job. Heck, he couldn't get to the CAY Municipal Center before 11:00 a.m. on most days, what makes you think that he is going change now? Kwame must really have the goods on ole Petey - Perhaps something more criminal than sexual harrassment? It's sure helpful when you can use the DPD as your private Gestapo - Just ask the victims of the honorable Coleman A. Young. - Why do you think that he had the loylaty of all of the pastors? A direct parallel can be drawn between them and the Rev. Edgar Vann, who likes to solicit schoolgirls and was busted for it but never charged. In any other city that would have been a major scandal, but it barely got noticed here. Sorry for hijacking the thread..........

DETROIT (WXYZ) - Compuware Corp. has announced the layoffs of about 250 service workers Tuesday, cutting its total workforce by 4 percent.

Hire a felon.
Layoff 250 workers.

Didn't Compuware once have a controversial "ethics" requirement for new hires? Something about engaging in conduct that might hurt the image of the company?

Anyone know how much Karmonos paid for that building? Think Karmanos had problems dealing with city council or getting permits approved? How much tax liability was relieved for how many years when Compuware moved downtown? Isn't Compuware's contract w/ DPS worth about $15M / year?

Kwame doesn't have to have any dirt on Pete. He's merely getting repaid.

Archer was in office in 2000 when the compuware building built. The Felon didn't take office until 2002.

The payback for Pete to employ this fool, will come from Momma straight from her position on the House Appropriations Committee.

I wonder how The Michigan Citizen (Blk_Soul_x's favorite "whack mag") is going to report on this one?

I remember a few year back when they spewed their anti-Archer venom, The Michigan Citizen had this beauty of a headline:

"Archer Jr. Gets $70 Million Contract/GM Lays Off 25,000!"

If they didn't have such a "Kwame Lovefest" at that rag, they could post something like this:

"Karmanos Hires Kwame/Compuware Lays Off Hundreds"

Again, why are people upset that Kwame has a job that will allow him to pay CoD residents restitution?

Is there ANY job that would be satisfactory for DYes denizens? Or do you just want him in prison for life? This way not only doesn't the city get any money back, he's living on OUR dime not just from 2002-2008, but for LIFE!

-Yes breaking rocks with a hammer, he can pay back the city through his "Civic Fund" that Bobby Ferguson paid into, and others he shook down.

Kwame's only paying 12 cents on the dollar (it's costing the city over 8 million for the lawsuits... SO FAR... just wait until the Tamara Greene case goes to trial).

And you think we should be happy with that?

Just wait until he gets a job handing out soap-on-a-rope at a federal penitentiary... where the entire country pays for his incarceration...

Somewhere in Covisint is a person who really hoped for a promotion, who worked hard and plays by the rules. But the Big Boss has a pal that wants the job, and although the pal is the target of a FEDERAL COORUPTION PROSECUTION - doesn't matter when its between pals! The pal gets the job and the regular guy gets kicked to the curb.

Gotta admire a boss like that Cozie and Deneen!

Wonder how Pete is going to look when the information comes out about the 'Party' with a 'Dancer' that never happened.

Southwestmap: "The pal gets the job and the regular guy gets kicked to the curb."

. . . .Or the regular gal just gets KICKED.
