Is anyone in an office tower with a view of the newly completed campus improvements to DTE? That would be an interesting pic b/c from what I understand, the public won't be able to use much of it. French777, if you could get maybe a pic from the outside, that would be splendid.

If your in the area could you get some of the exterior front leading into the lobby, and perhaps some of the lobby.
Thanks

It was a reference to this clusterfuck of a thread, specifically Hockey_player's post near the middle of the page. My intent was not to offend anyone.

I need some real good shots of the Rivera Murals at the DIA. Hopeful some with enough pixels so it can be used in an upcoming book.

Your help can at least gain you a by-line, if not compensation depending on the publisher. They will have to get your John Henry not me :-) I'm just working on the design right now.

Again please concentrate on centering the "Company Men" you can find them easy enough, they are wearing the fedora's that Diego so smartly placed in there as his political message. Funny 'ole Henry didn't figure that one out... ha ha ha

oh wait. Nevermind.

I'd love to see the Hard Rock.

DIA controls print rights of all items in the museum collection. You would have to obtain rights to print photos of that mural.

You live downtown now, right? Why don't you walk over there and find out for yourself.

How about if you go check it out yourself and tell us what you find out. You don't have to stay the night there, just go look around. Just like you don't have to buy anything in local stores. Instead of asking stupid questions, you could go take a look for yourself. It's free and you're a local now.

I don't want to hear any whining excuses about how busy you are, either. If you've got the time to ask stupid questions, you've got time to take a walk.

(Inside joke from these two links; https://www.atdetroit.net/forum/mes sages/5/175583.html?1234463576 and https://www.atdetroit.net/forum/mes sages/5/176993.html?1234959772. Because the only person who wasted more time than I did writing those, was the one who read it and wrote his own response before asking the same questions :-)).

Glad to see you caught the subtle sarcasm. The point being a 17 year old kid can take the iniative to go downtown, explore, and take picture requests. And he's coming from an outer suburb. You supposedly live downtown and can't bother to get off of your ass to walk a couple blocks to check something out.

As for the casino, I've been there more times than I probably should have. Funny thing, though...in the dozens of times that I've been there, I've never seen a bathroom attendant. Have you, sean?

French, how was the photo shoot? Hope you had a great time.

Retroit, how about a pic of lodgedodger mopping the floor with the two of them? This old bag is a bit tired of the "Sean versus Cheddar Smackdown".

Sean, I say this in friendship: your energy is enviable, but some of these comments you bring upon yourself.

Cheddar: cut him some slack, okay?

Which comments do you think are bad? Cheddar, I was really just messing around, and assumed you are doing the same. You are kidding, right?

Lodgedodger, a lot of it comes from me trying to be empathetic and view things from the opposite, less popular, or undefended side. The debates in Non-Detroit are perfect examples. I do not always believe the things I say in a debate, which is fine in a place designed for debate... such as a discussion forum like DYES.

Other times it's just me being stupid and playing the fool (I do that a lot, but am always at least trying to improve and not close my mind to anything). What I'm really dieing to know is if Cheddar and Livernoisyard are the same person.

They aren't. Livernoisyard's writing style is very distinctive and easily recognizable, even when he's calling himself "Pancho" or "lowell."

" The debates in Non-Detroit are perfect examples. I do not always believe the things I say in a debate ..."

The art of debating requires that approach.

"...which is fine in a place designed for debate... such as a discussion forum like DYES."

Designed for debate? Hardly. Literally speaking, discussion may or may not include debate. Forums like DYes are not at all optimal for real debate - different general purpose. People are simply attempting to use DYes for debate, and terribly informal debate at best.

No. Not really. If this kid can get off his ass to explore and check things out and not just ask everyone else to do it for him, then you can too.

I'll make this deal with you: Next time I'm at Greektown, I'll take pictures of the bathrooms and when they show that there are no bathroom attendants, you can admit that you are a liar.

While we're talking about you being wrong, the only opinion I share with Livernoisyard is the one about you.

There's attendants in the bathrooms at the casino? I don't think I've ever seen any.

French, next time you make a journey downtown, I'd be interested in seeing how the Port Authority is coming along.

So your actually arguing about bathroom attendants.

Bigb23, yeah, I had a lot of carp happen to me in this city too. I've been jumped, hit by cars do to the unwalkable nature of some areas, been robbed, seen a man get his head smashed in, lived in a building with blood splattered hallways, got priced out of the city I love, had several friends commit suicide, have multiple family members who lost their homes recently, and been homeless myself (and that isn't even all of it). This was all in Metro Detroit. So, why is it that I am still out there doing things around here with a positive attitude, convinced Detroit is coming back, while others have given up hope? What's the real difference between them and I?

Cheddar doesn't know me, he's never met me, and has no idea of the things I'm doing or not doing for this city (the largest of which is moving and raising a family here). It's not people like me who have given up on Detroit, it's the people like him.

I don't look at it that I'm arguing about the attendants as much as I'm arguing that you're wrong. When someone says something that is not true, realizes that they're wrong and admits their error, it's a mistake. When someone says something that is wrong, knows that it's wrong, has it pointed out that they're wrong, but still refuses to acknowledge that they made a mistake, they are a liar.

quote:

Cheddar doesn't know me, he's never met me, and has no idea of the things I'm doing or not doing for this city

You say this and then in the very next sentence, you do the exact same thing by saying,
quote:

It's not people like me who have given up on Detroit, it's the people like him.

(As if SOD knows me).

Wolverine: I'm not sure what you mean by "reasonable photography". In past visits to the casinos, even when I wanted to take photos of the entertainment (local legends, if you will), no where near the gaming areas, I was not allowed to do so.

I brought in a Nikon D40 (it's kind of big) into Greektown. At first security joked and said "no" but then said it was fine as long as I wasn't pointing it directly at the tables. I wasn't planning on gambling though...just cutting through to the restrooms, getting some food on the lower level and getting pictures downtown.

I had a college reunion with some friends at MGM last September and we took a bunch of photos out on the gaming floor. Security said nothing even though they could see us. In fact one of the staff took a group photo of us.

I know someone may ask me what "reasonable" is but I don't think it needs to be explained in detail. Don't take photos behind people's shoulders or the tables. A shot of your friends standing out in the middle of the gaming floor, in the restaurants, or at the bar should be fine.

Don't know about Motor City, but did a quick search and found quite a few photos, so I guess that was ok. But I did get confirmation at Greektown, unless the rules have since changed.
