I had chicken fried steak, eggs, and hash browns with country gravy. Saturday morning though.

I should have a diner.

At home generally. Today for our "brunch" we had egg salad on toast and soup. If I want a big breakfast though, I go out. Breakfast makes too many dirty dishes. I hate kitchen cleanups.

I rarely eat breakfast. Pot of coffee is plenty enough for me. I make it up at lunch and dinner (and snacking all day long).

I'm warped.

It's been a while but we used to go to Toast and the Flytrap. Been ages since I've been to the Original House of Pancakes too... yum!

Cooking at home usually now, mostly omlelets with sauted mushrooms, onions, spinich and feta. On the side veggie sausage, potato pancakes and toast.

1 bowl oatmeal or cereal, 2 medium boiled eggs, 1 extra-large cup coffee, 1 slice toast with butter, 1 small glass juice, 1 piece fruit and occasionally some bacon or ham. Tttthhhhat's all folks! At home! Why bother with a restaurant? As good as it get's sitting on my deck eating breakfast watching the lake. Even in the winter. My deck is enclosed and just like a sunroom.

Thanks, kielson for making me drool with envy, I am sun deprived and eating on an enclosed deck looking at water (even if frozen) sounds like manna to us sun and water deprived entities. Will spring never come?

Honest John's is terrible for breakfast. Overpriced for the quality and quantity that you receive.

The Detroit Breakfast House on Woodward has awesome chicken and waffles for a decent price. Everything else is overpriced though.

Hockey, thanks for your comments about HJ's. I agree completely. You forgot to mention the worst part of it - HJ himself. He could easily ruin a meal. I planned to say something earlier, but I'd heard criticism of HJ is a no-no here at DY. We'll soon find out when our posts disappear.

Hockeycox1966 and 1kielsondrive:

To each his own, I guess. We've never had a bad breakfast experience at Honest John's, or any bad experience there at all. In fact, we've taken a number of friends and family there for meals at all times of the day, and everyone has really enjoyed it.

Way back when, I enjoyed the sunday brunch at the Rhino. First class! Great food, coffee and music. It was the first restaurant, in my memory, that touted their 'gourmet' coffee, always served fresh and in clear, glass, coffee cups. I'd wake up, grab a NY Times and walk (or crawl) over and plop my butt down for a few hours. The Clique has always been very good - much like a neighborhood diner, but I haven't been there in years. What was the woman's name who played harp at the Rhino? What was the blind woman's name who played piano and sang on weekends?

Where?
Whichever Speedway station I happen to be passing by at the time..64 oz's of coffee for under two bucks, a couple god-awful "breakfast sandwiches" for another couple bucks, and I'm ready for my coronary..oh, and this is a daily thing, why save it for Sunday?
Yum-yum!
:-)

Rj, it wasn't Bess Bonnier. Thanks for reminding me of Bess. I was at her SEMJA (SE MICH JAZZ Association) award ceremony at Baker's a few years ago. A true gem of a lady and musician. The woman at the Rhino was large, lovely and a real lively singer.
