I've got a couple of friend coming into town and are staying at a hotel downtown which wants to charge $25 a day for parking.

Anyone know if they can park at the Greektown garage overnight for free? If not, any other cheaper overnight options that you are aware of?

Thanks

I use the Greektown garage for all of my downtown parking needs because its free, including all day conferences at the Ren Cen or Cobo. I dont think anyone will care or mind.

Why not stay at the new Greektown hotel?

They should be fine overnight. I was having car problems once and kept it there and recovered it the next day.

Besides, even if people aren't going into the casino, they are patronizing businesses in Greektown, and that's really the least they want you to do.

Wolverine-- The Greektown Casino could care less about people patronizing the businesses in Greektown.

Thanks guys,

They actually were able to reserve a room at the Holiday Inn via Priceline for under $50 a night.

I had also heard they charge early in the morning.
If that doesn't work, does anyone know of any other overnight parking downtown?

the underground lot at woodward and Grand River is an overnight lot($10 for 24hours) also, if you park in the greektown casino garage nearest i-75, its free and there is pass you need(ie-no way to know when you came in or out). my girl parks her car there when she comes down to visit me overnight without issues...

Parking lot facing the Holiday Inn Express entrance typically runs about $12/night. In my own instances, I have been able to park right along Washington Blvd or on Shelby located behind the hotel and have never had any issues with tickets or vandalism.

Between 7ish and 10ish AM you can not get your Gtown Casino parking ticket validated at the kiosks. This prevent business traffic from taking advantage of the structure on Randolph/Brush next to Fishbones. Outside of that, that structure is free with validation inside the casino.

Check out the Opera House Garage on Broadway. It is supposed to be 24 hours and monitored.

Actually, I don't think the Beaubien lot offers validation anymore. The free lot is the one at 375 and Monroe.

I agree with Dorothyd, I parked overnight in the Opera House lot for 5 bucks.

Holiday Inn downtown is $18 a night for valet service with in/out allowed. If your friends are only paying 50 bucks for their room why not spring for the parking and let the hotel try to survive?

How much is public parking in the Westin Book Cadillac lot? I assume it is relatively inexpensive......I'll wager it is less than $18...

401don, they were quoted $25, although I do see their website states $18. Their concern was that is is valet only, as they read numerous reviews online with people claiming big problems with the valet - from theft to 2 hour waits for their vehicles.
