Craig Biggio has been around for a pretty long time, now, and has turned out to be a helluva baseball player. In Houston, he has played his entire career in the imposingly large shadow of the recently-retired Jeff Bagwell (who was quite a hitting machine, himself,) but his accomplishments are many, and great enough to warrant serious Hall Of Fame consideration when the time comes. Of those accomplishments, I would like to share, with you, my favorite: Craig Biggio has been Hit By (a) Pitch once, so far this season. If he gets plunked five more times (which, given his track record, he probably will,) that will add up to 288, and he will pass Hughie Jennings to become baseball's All-Time Leader in this auspicious category. Sort of gives a fresh new meaning to the term, "taking one for the team," doesn't it? |
