I hear Pittsburgh may have a vacant home lockerroom soon; the Preds should go there! |

Personally I'd like to see them move to Winnipeg. Give that city a hockey team again. It'll be supported there faithfully whereas any of the other locations mentioned might not as strongly; hockey's a good ol' Canadian sport supported by rabid Canadian fans so why not give the Winnipeg fatihful a team? |

Kansas city. The new sprint center looks great perfect for a hockey team. |

MO doesn't need 2 hockey teams. |

I agree MO does not need 2 hockey teams especially when the Blues are last in attendence....I vote for Hamilton. They have not have a team since 1920, the southern Ont. region is Balsillie's preference and they have rabid fans their as well. Why not give them a chance, and let the Winnipeg businessmen who have spoke in the past of their desire to bring a team back acquire the Florida Panthers, another team that is bleeding money. |

Between Detroit and Toronto, southern ontario's fan base is already split...not to mention that Hamilton is less than an hour from both Toronto and Buffalo. You know that both teams would strongly object to splitting their market. |

I look at the simple economics of where would a team thrive the most. Where would it already have a rabid fan base? And where would it not have to compete with other entertainment venues? •Hamilton- too close to Toronto, Buffalo & Detroit •Nashville- floundered there for a bit already •Kansas City- small market and like people have said, two MO NHL franchises? •Las Vegas- too much competition from every other third act out there already •Quebec- Nordiques couldn't cut it there & proximity to Montreal •Houston- warm weather hockey again? •Portland- brand new market --which leads me to sending a team back to Winnipeg where the people are still rabid for hockey. They've got a solid fan base there. Not much competition for the entertainment dollar and it should revive Canadian hockey interests again. |

We do have a test case for the "return to vacated city" scenario: how are the Minnesota Wild drawing? |

According to ESPN, Minnesota played to 102.2% capacity this season: http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/ attendance?year=2007 The Winnipeg Jets were a victim of the Canadian dollar (or Loonie if you will...) being at historic lows. With a 92 cent Loonie, Winnipeg could probably survive. |

Winnipeg, Portland, or Seattle would probably be best for a new/relocated franchise. Winnipeg would be the best out of those three. |

I suspect that the sunbelt teams established during Bettman's reign will not relocate (en mass) until Bettman is removed from office. Seattle would be a good rivalry with Vancouver. Winnipeg and Quebec City are reasonable options (as stated above). That being said, there is certainly room for another NHL team between Detroit, Buffalo and Toronto. But does the NHL want to go there? i.e. such a team will not build the game's fan base. |

What kind of arenas do any of the cities have to offer. |

Winnipeg has a new arena but I believe the capacity is just under 16,000 which is a tad small by NHL standards (although more than Nashville is currently drawing). I believe Quebec City still has its old arena from the Nordiques days. As for Kitchener-Waterloo, a new arena would need to be built (and it would be built just outside the Leafs' 65 mile territory). I believe Seattle is building a new arena. |

I believe I heard he bought the lease at Hamilton but it would only be temporary and they move more towards Waterloo. |

I think Balsillie will move it to Hamilton until an arena is built near Waterloo. He doesn't want to fly to Seattle or Houston to watch his team. Remember, Research in Motion is in Waterloo. I know Detroit and Toronto will object, but the waiting list for Leafs season tickets is very long, and they sell out every game. Wings fans will go to the see Wings play there, but that's about it, just like they did in Nashville. It doesn't help Detroit's plea to move to the Eastern Conference and cut down on late-night TV games and travel though. I can't see another team in Texas or Missouri. In Seattle it would be a fad for a few years then fold. Heck, the Sonics are leaving soon. Portland, same story there. |

I hope that the Preds stay in Hamilton once moved there. Why move them again to Kitchner when Hamilton has longed for a team and been shut out many times. Build a new arena there, I am sure the local city council will cooperate (I know it is only like 40 miles but still) BRING BACK THE HAMILTON TIGERS!!!! |

Each NHL team has a 65 mile indemnification area, and Hamilton falls within both Toronto's and Buffalo's indemnification areas. K-W is outside the 65 mile zones. That is why K-W will likely be Balsillie's primary choice (and the fact he lives there). |

Milwaukee or Green Bay??? Are you serious? Green Bay is 100,000 people and the Packers are an exceptional situation that is not repeated anywhere in the US. They are owned by the city, only play 8 games at home and is the only game in town. Milwaukee is simply not a hockey town; yea, the admirals draw fairly good, but there is a big jump in prices from AHL to NHL, besides the Bucks can barley get by and apparently need a new arena. The NHL needs to go back to Canada, where there are rabid fans and where it will be the only game in town. |

GREAT NEWS!!!! Give Canada another hockey team, after all, it was a shame when Winnipeg and Quebec lost thiers. Move all teams south of the mason-dixon line to the Great White North, as hockey is certainly a Reginal sport. (Message edited by detroitej72 on June 17, 2007) |

Yup, Basilie will move it to Canada. Its pretty much what he wanted when he made his bid to buy the Penguins, but backed down when the Pennsylvania politicians were hostile to any deal that did not promise that the Pens stay in Pittsburgh (and Penguins still almost moved thanks to Pennsylvania politicians anyway.) And he wants it in Ontario, while I believe it deserves to be in Winnipeg which would give that town hockey again and help in getting the Wings into the Eastern Conference. Putting a team in Hamilton would mostly hurt the fanbase of Toronto and of Buffalo. I doubt there are many Wings fans in that neck of the woods and would not likely affect Wings fans in SW Ontario (how many of them are Tiger-Cat fans anyway?) At least the team will be out of Nashville, where it did not belong. |

quote:Leipold wants to have a binding agreement on the proposed $220 million sale with Balsillie, the co-CEO of Blackberry makers Research in Motion Ltd., before the league further considers the transaction. "We did send the NHL a letter today requesting that it not do any further due diligence on Jim Balsillie's offer for the Nashville Predators until we reach a binding agreement," Leipold said in a statement Friday evening. "If Jim is interested in reaching a binding agreement, we are prepared to move forward." Uhh... I don't think it's totally dead yet... Just sounds like he wants a binding agreement. |
