Tony, I thought the same thing about the design. Designed by a Firebrat for Firebrats.
You might be right about Grand Blvd. One of the guys from our group thinks it was in that area too. Thanks

Hi I was wondering if any of you with station pictures would be willing to share with me. I'm a Lansing FF and a photo buff. I"m trying to get as many of the old razed stations I can. I have shot several of the stations still in service and am looking for the older ones. Thanks

Welcome to the forum. You can copy the pictures posted by me. I took them.
If you like, you can post some of your DFD station pictures here. That's how our "little" thread started.
Thanks

1st E 5, 17, 35, L 7, S 4,2 C 5
2nd E 10, 31, 44, L 20, 28, C 1 C 203
3rd E 8, 39, 42, L 21, S 3, C 8 (Man Power)

Fire in 10 story apartment.

Pennstar, FYI, on the second page of firehouses you have Ladder 28 with Engine 2. Should be Engine 21. E21 is still an active company, but it hasn't been open in many, many months. According to the newest deployment plan, though, it may get reactivated on a rotating basis in the coming weeks (apparatus and manpower permitting).

Also on the second page, you have a photo of Engine 1. You could add TAC 2. The TAC (mini pumper) is an active company with a roster at that quarters, though we don't have a working TAC so it is closed daily.

You list Engine 38/Ladder 29. Unfortunately, L29 was permanently deactivated in 2005 so that quarters is just E38 now.

Oops, sorry I wasn't more clear. No need to delete Ladder 28. It is an active company that shares the house on Linwood with Engine 21 (phantom company that it is). Your shot of that house has the Apparatus Repair vehicle on the apron out front. L28 must need some TLC (actually, I did see it parked down at the Repair Shop a few days ago).

There was an addition built onto the back of Ladder 19 in the past few years. That's where they keep the rig now. I haven't been detailed there since the addition was built, but I believe they pull into the bay through the door in the parking lot and pull out through the door on French Road. I think a medic runs there too, which is why there are two bay doors on French. The old bay, with the door facing Shoemaker, is used for parking personal vehicles. I think they built the addition because the old bay floor was falling in. If anyone knows better info than this, please correct me.

From what I understand, we're very close to getting 12 new engines and four(?) new trucks -- next month or so. The new rigs are sorely needed.

L-19 doesnt fit in the old side, the rig is too tall, and yes its L-19 & EMS only on the new side. The old side is empty completely, no parking is allowed inside quarters at L-19

Maddog: The floor on the Shoemaker side has no
supports.It couldn't support the straight
frame Seagrave. Remember the rig parking outside?
I had heard of a plan to put Sq.3 with L.19
and move the Medic. Another plan was to put E.46
with L.19.Never happened.

Wayne State's Virtual Motor City has recently added many thousands of new scans online. There are now over 160 of them if you search for "fires". I'm sure there are many more DFD pics added too.

http://dlxs.lib.wayne.edu/cgi/i/image/image-idx?c=vmc

This photo was from a fire at 12th and Howard in 1952. Needed a lot of color correction; note the WWJ remote truck on the scene.

This is about the best I can do for an enlargement, without the quality going way down. There are two other photos of this fire at the VMC, both show ladder trucks.

The name of the place burning is the Lambert Lowman Division of Ketcham & Co, the address looks like it is 1212 Howard, on one of the signs.

I did my research the lazy way.Called
FC DAN.You beat me to the punch. Dan
identifies the fire as a 5th.Alarm on
Box 236.Lamson and Loman Drug Co.
1212 12th.street. How about that for
an address? March 24, 1952 $ 50,000 loss.
The shot of the WWJ crew and rig is classic.
Hats and overcoats. THANKS Again.
