ES: Okay, okay...the first round at the conference is on me...Diet Pepsi for all!! The University of Michigan helmets are one of a kind...unique and recognized all over the world as signifying excellence...as opposed to a helmet with the symbol for Trojan condoms painted on the side. Why would anyone want to be known as a failed or blocked effort?

GB - The u OF m helmets are actually from the 1930's Flash Gordon set.......I think Thun and the Clay People wore them first...at least the Spartans are not singing "Hail to Cialis"....Keep it up!

Very little history that i know of my house and the neighborhood.
The side of the street I lived on (south side) was the last row of houses built for quite awhile according to my grandfather when he bought in 1941.
He said there were fields as far as you could see with a small creek running through the area where Manning is today.
He hunted in the woods on the other side of 8 mile, I'm sure some of your relatives may have also.
My mother and uncle grew up in that house "The Webers".
Both of them attended Burbank and Denby
My uncle graduated I want to say 55 or 56. Robert was a class clown hot rodder type, who went on to be a champion roller skater. You can see some of his photo's in the motor city roller skating web site.
My mother was a quiet girl that got good grades. Suzanne graduated in 58 or 59.
Isn't weird how one's life comes full circle. After being away for almost 15 years here she comes back to the "old neighborhood". And most of the parents of her friends still lived there. The Taylor's, Maisano's, Raab's, Cibulka's etc.
Unbeknownst to me my life would also take a full circle in another 15 years.
more later
G

Gtat: Yup...just looked your mom up in my yearbook...we were in the same class...we're on the same page in the '59 yearbook if she still has her's...I'm in the second row on the far right...I recognize her...I think we socialized in the same circles...I sort of remember her but can't place her specifically. I'd be interested in hearing about her life...its always interesting to hear how lives developed...I just made contact with a guy I was in the Boy Scouts with...he's now a well known plastic surgeon in San Fran...the world is small.

GB - I know her very well....and cheerleading was not in the cards for SH....Have you contacted Brink directly or you have only seen is ad in various mags??????? As an educator who never had to play in the business world...and get frightened later in your career that you would be dumped for looking older.....and since you have used the prom photo since 1969.....so is BB going to do your eyes, nose or what????

ES: Have been in direct contact with BB...we were in the Scouts together albeit he was a few years behind me...no work on me but spouse's eyes lit up when she heard what he did for a living...this could cost me in a serious manner.

I am fully aware that you know...or certainly "knew" SH...curious about why no cheerleading for her...wild one that she was/is.

Curious too...you and "Shari" visited BB...sure hope that ME didn't find out...not to worry...your secret is safe with me!! heh, heh, heh

ES: TC it is! BTW...never asked...do you ski? My years long skiing partner/buddy decided that he's too old to ski anymore...his problem not mine...I'm looking for a new partner...ID'ed a couple...but SMT vetoed both of them...a couple of 40 somethings...one with the initials SH...sort of looked familiar from somewhere...a daughter? Thinking maybe to head for the Tahoe area...haven't skied Heavenly in almost 20 years.

ES: Ouch!! Have had both knees scoped but that was from running...orthopedic finally convinced me that if I kept running I wouldn't be able to walk without serious pain...no problem since...shifted to long distance bicycle riding and soon after was hit by car driven by a med resident from M who'd been on duty for over 100 hours...never got my nerve back again.

Cleared for skiing...sorry to hear you can't...well...one never knows where SH will be discovered...does one?

GoBlue: Seven Mile Road is at the bottom of the image. This view is looking North. The ice rink has been replaced with new tennis courts, football field and Heilmann School.

Heilmann Park brings back a lot of romantic memories. (back seat romances)
Many times the police would drive by shinning their post spot light but wouldn’t stop. As many as a dozen cars would be parked, windows all stemmed and radios all playing the same station.

Flyby: Sorry to hear that the ice rink is gone...I played on the city championship hockey team in '59 from Heilmann...we were sponsored by the Easttown Paint Co. on Harper....had to laugh at your description of the "romances" in the Heilmann lot...it sounds like the Balduck Park lot in my era...steamed up windows, radios and a few cars rocking...cops did the same thing in those days...ES61 knows far more about the area behind Denby...he spent most of his senior year in his back seat with SH...and then she dumped him...something about socks in the sack!

Fly & ES: We be hearin' a whole lot of chatter from the head of the Mapleridge Mob...the real reason I never went near SH was because I was terrified of retribution from the head of the Mob...aka ES61! The word was that he packed a deadly pea shooter!

FLY/GB - I have reread the DYes Thread about the tough white neighborhood over and over and the common theme for the eastside centers around the 7/Gratiot area Celestine Boys of the late 50's......GT(CBoys leader) was known for dating younger DHS TARS - exclusively freshmen according to the rumors and actual facts...The Celestine Boys were vicious and preyed upon innocent females in the Parkgrove / Columbus School area.....They had taken over a home on Fordham a couple of blocks west of Hayes....You stayed out of that area -

FLY/GB....the Mapleridge Mob was noted for their deadly accuracy with pea shooters...the Celestine Boys had no choice but to upgrade our defenses to Wham-O slingshots and B-B guns...it was a matter of technology. The cold war was heating up!! The M'Mob boys were different...they looked different...they wore pegged pants...they were after our women...we had no choice but to defend our 'hood!

The Celestine Boys were total greasers........We on Mapleridge tried for years to bring the Collegiate....up scale style to the neighborhood.....Khaki's - Barracuda Jackets - D - Club Sweaters - Loafers.....the CBoys were still using brylcream by the 5 gallon drum and rollin' their Levi's......The CBoys were pretty slow with the neighborhood foxes...usually they lasted only one date...and most of those were set ups.......On guy even tried to break away from the BOYS by playing hockey......he was the only one to be admitted to Western Michigan.....I think.....

It is so sad...only two weeks out of intensive rehab and ES61 has fallen off the wagon...again...the hallucinations have started...the recall of events that never were...the projection of self issues onto others...it is so sad. There is nothing we can do but to continue to pray for him.
