From my calculations the new community center is located right on the location of where the ice rink use to be. If you follow Manning street directly east/west in the photo you will see it runs smack into the new center. Liberal street (one block south of manning) ran directly into the old community center/pool. The last time I checked (this summer) the "old tennis courts" (built in the early 70s) were still there but unattended

Dee-troit is building new houses in our old neighborhood. Carol King lived at 14656 Linnhurst, but the house she lived in has been replaced. Barbara McKay's house at McCrary and Saratoga has been replaced also. the new houses are two story frame houses, and I think the garage is attached rather than in the rear yard.

GB - Mexican money does not count.....So when you pay off to the Green/White crowd in August you will more than likely need Canadian money since it is now worth more than the US dollar....In other news Read several entries above and help figure out who Rocket Bozo might be.....

For those of you who've lived in the St. Jude/Heilmann area this YouTube entry may jog some fond memories.

ES: True...we were outstanding entreprenuers...unfortunately DPD such as BH took a dim view of our efforts...at one point I had a superb fireworks business underway...a quick run to the Ohio line to purchase a trunkful of excellent product...resale on the Eastside for a 300% markup...ended up getting busted...they confiscated my entire inventory and gave me a slap alongside the head...at that point I concluded that the DPD was socialist and anti-capitalist...switched to a black market in condums but the profit margin was much less...unloaded most of the damaged goods around Mapleridge and Parkgrove!!

KR: nice link to the St. Jude bells...you could hear those bells for a long way...interesting sublink on that page to the bells in Quito, Ecuador...I've been to that cathedral and heard the bells.

Go Blue,
There are certain sounds that take one back to a certain place and time in a vivid fashion. The St. Jude Bells take me back to the Heilmann neighborhood during late 50s and 60s like it was yesterday. Somewhere I have a picture of me sitting next to the bells displayed on the St. Jude steps before they were installed in the bell tower. The bells were timed to ring at 8AM, 12Noon, and 6PM. Having lived exactly two blocks south of the church, returning to school after lunch or being home for dinner were reinforced by the church bells (historically, however the bells are meant to remind the catholic faithful to pray the Angelus).
As an acolyte (altar boy) at St. Jude I recall how exciting it was to peal all three bells (via a key switch) after a wedding or tow the large lower bell after a funeral. It was awe inspiring....It seemed the whole church would resonate. What a nice coincidence the the bells in Quito, Ecuador were part sub-linked to the St. Jude Bells!

KR: Growing up on the eastside was the experience of a lifetime...one to never be forgotten...the experience...the schooling...and the religious values instilled all combined to enable us all to be the people we are...

Even ES61!.as unlikely as it may be he is free...out on the streets...even if he is frightfully and constantly looking over his shoulder hoping that SH is not three steps behind him!! It is all but impossible to compute almost 50 years worth of child support!!

KR - remember that GO BLEW is an individual who lived on Fordham....not Eastwood! Fordham and Celestine, too.....so sad that special education did not meet his needs and he became blinded by the "banana heads" that worshiped bronco's or anteaters or whatever.....I think the "BH" cult was recently looking for a new home in Mexico.....someone on this thread was discussing "Religious Values".......

KR: The "father of the eastside" speaks with forked tongue...as they say amongst the indigenous peoples. Unfortunately I do believe that he was my company's best customer for defective condoms hence the "father" tag...he sure as hell didn't acquire the moniker for listening to confessions and sprinkling holy water!!

GB - Forgive me ...for I have sinned. A 5.6+ earthquake just rolled through the bay area.....a good 5 to 10 second roller......Thing seem to still be in there original place......Please forgive all my EASTSIDE sins....and I am so so sorry that you were hit in the head while skating a Heilmann....CK would have loved to stand outside at Heilmann - freezing her brains off - for you...I am sure.....Did SR like your games - I mean your hockey games.....and there will be a chapter in the book regarding the OTHER people....that's right ...the protestants (like you and me) who lived on the Eastside......I better go out to the barn and light a few more candles next to Father B's shrine...

ES: Read about the shaker this morning...in my opinion it was simply a warning to you...and SH. Went through a 6.2 that was centered about 75 miles out of town when I was living in Anchorage...there were so many that we generally didn't pay much attention to them but that one went on and on...even the dog woke up from his mid-day nap and headed for the door...about the time that we got to the door it quit...no real damage...a few glasses off of shelves.

Heed the warning my son!

ES: Last saw or heard of SR at our 25th reunion back in 1984...my recollection is that she started at Wayne State...married a guy from Denby and got pregnant...I can't vouch for the order...at the 25th she was with her "fiance" and didn't seem much interested in a conversation beyond hello...being single at the time I was with a casual girlfriend...SR was living in the Bloomfield Hills area...looked as good as ever...I wrote to her once after that meeting suggesting a polite lunch but never heard back. Oh well...I've got my memories.

GB - Father Banana head....I AM SO proud of you......Great try....and we will need to list out all those we need to communicate with in REGARDS (cough) to the book....and the vital role they will play in making the book accurate....and close to the truth.....Was SR an educator or did she work in the real world????

ES: Dunno what SR did for a living...don't know if she ever finished her degree...while the greeting at the 25th was not exactly chilly the point was clearly made that there would be no conversation beyond a relatively brief hello. It clearly did not pay to have been a nice guy back in the TAR days!
