Is it too much to ask an NFL player on defense to simply fall on the ball instead of trying to pick it up so they can score a touchdown. Tampa Bay challenged the play in which they recovered the ball and it was determined to be a forward pass, but the Lions player who didn't just fall on the ball should still be fined or at least given a noogie by each member of the Lions coaching staff. MSU did the same thing yesterday inside the OSU 20 yard line. That's something everyone should learn in pee wee football.

Speaking of pee wee football that's exactly who Calvin Johnson looked like he was playing against on his touchdown run today. He's supposedly 6'5", but he looked like he was 7' tall as the Tampa Bay players tried to bring him down.

That one long run by Johnson was pretty amazing. Not only did he elude some of Tampa's prime beef back there, but some of their surest tacklers as well. It's little glimpses like this where his speed & size makes me want to see him utilized in the Lions offense that much more. No offense to Roy Williams, Mike Furrey, Shaun McDonald and whomever, but I really want to see this guy develop into something huge for us.

Kudos too Calvin Johnson though for keeping his cool about him and being a mature consumate team guy. He doesn't seem to come across like a brass arrogant sort of guy that puts up bulletin board material like Roy's apt to do at times. From all accounts, he's a nice likable young man with some amazing talent.

I'm in agreement with MLive.com's Tom Kowalski that we should see him in the offense every chance- if nothing else but to intimidate the heck out of the microscopic DBs that have to check him.

What impresses me most about this Lions team is their meanness on defense. They may not have a 'steel curtain' type defense__that is to say, they are not a total 'shut-down' defense, but they really are aggressive in their tackling and hits!__ that is something that we have not seen in Lions country in a long time. I get a thrill watching these guys on defense.

While I totally admire your confidence, bravado and admiration of our team's defense, Blksoul_x... my only wish is that they can maintain this level of intensity. For a few stretches there against some of the better blocking teams, you'd think that our defense was Pop Warner. We've got some decent talent- but not spectacular or perennial Pro Bowl material just yet; they admittedly do have to play as a unit and that helps mask any major deficiencies. A sense of confidence in Marinelli's system also helps and they seem to be buying into it (heck, they gave Rod a game ball afterwards!).

But realistically and not meaning to dampen your enthusiasm by any stretch, Blksoul_x- we're still a mediocre team with some nice potential that needs to be proven.

'smogboy'___I'm haven't put the butter on the cornbread just yet:-)...I like the cockiness and the swagger that this unit seems to have. Yes they have a few deficiencies, and I agree, overall they have average NFL talent(mediocore)__However they are the best of the mediocre teams in the NFC. I would rank the Lions after Dallas, New York, and Chicago....The Packers bubble will bust soon!__and the Lions on any given day can match-up or beat the remaining teams in the NFC.

10-6 all day.

This Bears team is not very good, and I suppose it could be said that today's game is yet another case of the Lions getting a victory through the hapless courtesy of a mediocre opponent, but I know one thing, and it's for damned sure, which is that past Lions teams going to Chicago were very unlikely to come away with a Win, regardless of whether or not the Bears were a good team.
Big, mushy congratulations to the Detroit Lions for this one. Earlier today, at work, I said that if they could pull off a victory in this game, then THAT would be something to feel pretty damned good about, and I am delighted to stand by that statement.
P.S.: A tip of the hat to Blksoul_x for believing in this Lions team and having the guts to say so.

Why no Sunday Night Football. Is it because the World Series plays game four at the same time?

'royce' perhaps it had something to do with that ridiculous game in London today__However, Southern Mississippi and Central Florida is on ESPN__even thought it's like watered down beer, it's still wet!(LOL)

'ravine' thanks for the tip of the hat...coming from you I'll take it.

I've been hearing that the Lions have not played anybody all day...including Dion Sanders...Last week it was if they beat Tampa, this week, it was if they beat the Bears__when do you get to a point when a win is a good win?__go figure!

Heck!, New England has played Cleveland, Cincinnati, Buffalo, The Jets, Miami, and is also in the WORST division in the NFL.

I'm not suggesting that the Leo's are as good as the Patriots__if fact, not even close, but you have to beat the teams that are scheduled, and any when is a great win, just as everybody else in the league.

The fact is, the Lions have beat the defending NFC champions two times in three weeks__you have to give them credit for that...perhaps if the Bears won those two games they would be 5-3...that's the thin line between winning and losing.

Blksoul_x, here's the knife. It looks as though I'll be spreading the butter AND margarine with ya on the cornbread.

It wasn't exactly pretty but they did it. Did I expect it? No, but rest assured I'm happy with it. It's not a bad time to be cheering the accomplishments so far by our lads.

Forward down the field,
A charging team that will not yield.
And when the Blue and Silver wave,
Stand and cheer the brave.
Rah, Rah, Rah.
Go hard, win the game.
With honor you will keep your fame.
Down the field and gain,
A Lion victory!

GOOOOOOOOOOO LIONS!

Signs of optimism I saw from the Lions today were the fact that there didn't seem to be any major injuries (knock on wood), there seems to be a better balanced attack, no QB forced turnovers and that rag-tag secondary actually came away with some picks.

Against what everyone perceived as a desperate Chicago Bears team at home, our lads performed well. The offensive line seems to have gelled a bit with this game as well. Jeff Backus wasn't owned like he was last time we played Chicago. Some of those kickoffs to Hester were nearly brilliant even! I know a lot of credit seems to be focused on Martz, but sometimes I'm wondering if a guys like Coach Kwan & Barry deserve a nod as well.

Again, I'm very pleasantly surprised at the record of 5-2. Bravo Lions for their performance today.

I tried to watch the tv while listening to Dan Miller's radio play-by=play and the radio broadcast was behind the tv by about 15 seconds.

Is this a move by the NFL to make sure the local fans can't turn down the volume of the TV broadcasters in favor of the local annoucers?

I can't stand the national guys because they don't have the little inside details that the local guys have. Plus the local guys get a lttle excited when the Lions do well.

One thing I think everybody has to admit, no matter how many wins or losses this team puts up this year, it's pretty clear that the franchise has turned the corner on their 8 year downturn. It just feels different to watch them now. It's not the same old lions.. we have good coaching now and that is obviously impacting the mentality of the players. Strong Leadership always.. always prevails.

Danny Danny Danny... step away from the hallucinogens for a second there.

We'll assume you meant "John Kitna" of our beloved Lions, right? Because I just checked NFL.com and couldn't find any "John Dikas" on either the Bears nor the Lions' rosters.

Last spring I put ten bucks on the Lions to win the Super Bowl at a local casino. The odds were 100-1. Wild fling, but whaddahell.

Today the odds in the Vegas casinos are down to 20-1 for the same bet.

I'm not one to jump all over the media, but they do cause me to shake my head and grind my teeth, at times.
As of Monday afternoon, some of them have leaped from last Monday's "the Lions still really haven't beaten anybody" to "at this point, anything less than making it to the playoffs is unacceptable."
Aw, shuddup, goddamit.

Methinks there are some people, not just in the media that will just never be satisfied with the Lions.

If they win, they've beaten chumps. If we lose it's expected.

So to a certain degree, Mike Furrey's outburst last week isn't that far off. Why can't we just savor the fact that we're 5-2 at the moment? Do we really need to hear about the entire long winded history or this franchise? The same can be said for the Red Wings prior to winning the Cup back in the 90's as well. Some people will NEVER be happy with this team and it even makes me wonder even if the Lions won the Super Bowl, what their reactions are going to be.

Enjoy the team now. They beat who they beat; is that our fault? The NFL is all around mediocre right now with the exception of maybe 3-4 teams. If we're somehow in that upper echelon of being nearer to the top, isn't that better than being at the bottom?

Damn! I didn't think the Pack would score so fast in overtime as I just got back from the short stop at the convenience store less than a block away and heard the announcer screaming about that 82-yard Favre TD pass on the first play only 4 seconds into overtime. But I did get to see it on replay...

Were you quietly hoping that maybe the Broncos would snatch one from the Pack & we'd actually see our Lions tied for first place? The other motive was for the Broncos to win the game (in brutal multiple overtimes, of course) and come to town next Sunday depleted.

Favre still has just enough of a gun & gusto to snag a victory or two left in him. I'm hoping he's spent by the time we play him as well.

Who got burnt on the 79-yard TD earlier? Favre only had two TDs. 161 yards between them.

As long as the Lions stay a game behind my Pack, that's good...

Right now it looks like it could very well b the Pack & the Lions duking it out for the NFC Central. Both teams have deficiencies and yet both teams have some very interesting weapons & strengths as well. Those two games against one another could be very interesting regarding the pecking order. We'll see!

Yvette, I'm not saying that the Lions will or won't implode but in the meantime what about enjoying the fact that they're actually putting it together somewhat. A 5-2 record is a lot more than what I expected at this time so I'm learning to enjoy it now.
