Why continue debating who should play for number one when a playoff system would solve the debate? Why make a championship game based on politics and be determined by subjective views of writers and coaches? Where's the logic and fairness in this system? Missouri gets knocked out of a BCS bowl despite the fact that they beat Kansas to have the opportunity to not only play for a BCS bowl, but for the national championship. Yet Kansas gets to go because they had one less loss, despite the fact that they didn't play an extra playoff game, which the conference championship game is. And what about Hawaii? The only undefeated team in the top 20 and they don't even get considered for playing in the championship. Is there such a thing as a quality loss? Some say LSU deserves to be in the championship game despite the two losses because at lease their losses were both triple overtime losses, and of course they won the SEC championship. I still believe that a debate as to who gets to be in the eighth spot of aa eight-team playoff is a lot easier to debate than a debate about who gets to be in the first and second positions. Also, an eight-team playoff would not eliminate the bowls. Simply have the seven main bowls alternate in hosting a round of the playoffs and the championship game. All other teams from nine to fifty can play each other in the other 100 bowls. It would be logical and fair. What we have now is neither. (Message edited by royce on December 02, 2007) |

I'm with Royce. But the NCAA has never been particularly known for intelligence, so it will never happen in all probability. |

my plan: 8 teams - 6 BCS conference champs + 2 more (this year Hawaii + Mountain West champ*). 4 games on Jan 2 and 3. Semis on Jan 9 and 10. NC game on Jan 17. This would PO the fans of big conferences who wouldn't like 2 bids going to non-BCS conferences or independent teams. Sorry, but I got to make the make '8' number work ("Elite Eight") 8 / 4 / 2 / 1. All of the other bowl games could be played as they are now played. It would be essentially a two-tier system: Essentially 28 bowl games involving 56 teams + an 8 team playoff for a total of 64 teams. |

My 'plan' would make winning a conference championship MEANINGFUL. As it was this year, the voters had to make sure that Georgia didn't play for the National Championship while not even playing for the SEC championship. 12 year olds can't understand how Georgia could win the NC yet LSU win the conference championship. Strange. It would defy logic. Oops, in pro sports a 'Wild Card' team can be world champ but not divisional champ. Ugh! |
