I think Goblue must be suffering flashbacks from the 70's. We ran all those streets in the 60's and the only bad MO-FO's we ran into hung out on Gratiot between Lappin and Statefair. So get a grip on reality.

Lighten up Eastside_...ES61 and I were on the northeast side in the 50's & 60's...we've been jabbing each other with lighthearted digs for months...learn to laugh!

GB - What You mean you weren't Serious???????? Those stories are not true? jjaba actually lived on the corner of Whitehill and Brittain? Jjaba sang in the 6th grade Guardian Angels Boys Glee Club? and that you were a caddie at Chandler Park instead of the CCof D? This is too much for me

ES: You go too far! I NEVER caddied at Chandler Park...howsomever I was the ball/shag boy for the club pro at CP for one season after my career at CCD...his name was Al Lopez...I'd chase down the balls hit by a student when he was giving lessons...he also taught me how to hit a short iron with back spin.

Actually, I think Jjaba might have been SH's cousin...I remember her saying something one time about Westside relatives. It seemed curious at the time but then I've learned so many things about her that have left me incredulous. She seemed to have such high standards when I knew her.

If it's high standards, then jjaba is your guy.

jjaba would remind Denby that here in St. Brigit's Parish, hard by Ohio and Schoolcraft with Parducci freize(1950), we had but two religions on our streets; Catholics and Publics. jjaba was the latter, attending Noble School, run by DPS.

Ofcourse, the onliest difference over here is that at 3:30 pm the Jews got on buses for Hebrew School on Mon.-Thurs. on Dexter Blvd., getting home for dinner after 6pm.

jjaba assumes that this was the same in the Denby HS Catchment. So you dedicate this thread to the Publics amongst you.

jjaba, Westside Bar Mitzvah Bukkor.

Jjaba "You Da Man!".......Mapleridge mob for sure - Two blocks from the famous Christopher Columbus DPS school of distinction - and we were the only family who went to Publics......No after school hebrew school though.....we waited for MYF on sunday nights at Mt Hope Methodist on 7 mile.....so the public bond continues and I am sure you will find that your true roots are on the eastern side of Woodward AVE.....Your parents got it right by sending you to CT the E'Side Tower of Education Power...

J: SH did indeed have high standards... unfortunately I have since learned that in the years after we parted she seemed willing to accept any ne're do well who knocked on her door...most notably the CEO of Mapleridge Mob, Inc...much to the chagrin of her sweet and lovely mother, her DPD officer father...and her older sis...each family has a rebel I guess.

Fordham was about evenly divided between Catholics and Publics...We Lutherans however did have to attend two years worth of catechism study every Saturday morning 9:00-noon...and then two years worth of three times a week after school from 3:30-6:00...catching the Chalmers bus at Kercheval to ride home...the period of study concluded by age 13 however...by the time we became TARS we could begin to practice...I quickly realized that if you could go to hell for thinking about it the penalty for actually doing it could be no greater! I was wrong...that philosophy eventually led me into the disaster of SE'59.

GB - So it was the Lutheran Youth group that you sold the "Safe and Sane" fireworks to........????? You also made the Temple Circuit for your westside cousins who lived on Northlawn as part of the hebrew school experience......for both celebrating Bat / Bar Mitzvah's....You lutheran guys have always stirred up things over the years.

Since when does Lutheran go to Catechism?
On the Westside, that's Catholics.

No, Cass Tech. is city-wide. If it were Eastside, it would have more than 2 punks with ducktails going there, like Denby.

jjaba was recently at Cass Tech. and it was almost all-black. Is that Denby too today?

Hard to explain the white flight to today's generation. Some students probably didn't even know Detroit at one time was Black and White together at Cass Tech.

When Cass gets out, stand there and see how many take the Eastbound vs. Westbound Grand River bus.
Actually, most students either drive or get picked up, probably.

jjaba, Proudly Westside.

J: Catechism is/was probably only for Missouri Synod Lutherans (one step removed from Catholic).

I wore my hair in a short Princeton...but I do recall that ES has his in a very greasy ducktail...he was the Eastside Fonz. The word was that he used a quart of Vitalis per month.

I think that Denby today is likely 99.9% Black...there was an area in the Denby district known as Copper Canyon near Balduck Park that was largely White...until the courts ruled that the DPD could not be required to live inside the city.

You're right...it is all but impossible to explain White flight...and Detroit of the 40's and 50's.

We will never know what would it be like if Detroit had residency requirements today for city workers, DPS staff and faculty, and all the bus drivers. Having an invasive staff living in lily white suburbs and commuting to serve the city, seems like occupation to jjaba. It was a stabilizing factor in past generations.

ALC churches had catechism too. jjaba's wife went every Sat. morning for two yrs. before confirmation. She's from Urbana, Illinois.

OHMIGAWD Jjaba...related to a noted Spartan!?! Well...every family has one such I guess! Even SH dumped ES because he became a Spartan while she is Wolverine through and through!

I think you're right about city workers and occupancy...it seemed like the city was holding together by a thin thread until that court ruling...once all of the workers fled the result was cast in stone. We'll never know what might have been.

J - boy: I have done some Eastside research and CT was considered an EASTSIDE HS.......even when it was connected to Commerce HS.

Jjaba: Other documents about your westside experience will be revealed right here in the near future- You might want to e mail your brother who is the CEO of LETS in Arizona for advice

No Westside Cass Tech. students pack lunches to school. Proof enough that Cass Tech is not an Eastside school. If you have to go to the Eastside, you always pack a lunch.

There were no posters for my former business...word of mouth advertising...satisfied customers tell potential buyers...unfortunately one was a cop. How was I to know it was illegal...nobody ever told ME!

It means that with about 6 minutes to play in the game all players on the MSU bench were able to get into the game......

Your denial style started when you began to sell illegal fireworks...and it has gotten worse over the years.......did LETS provide mental health benefits to their CEO????

When going to the Eastside of Detroit, pack the #5 at The Esquire on Dexter Blvd.; pastrami and swiss on Kaiser with half-sour pickle and a slice of cherry steudel.

All's they got over there is Blood Sausage, Kielbasa, Rigitoni, and feather bowling.

Cadillac is at Clark St. and Michigan Ave. and that's Westside. Sadly, now a vacant lot.
Never heard of any Cadillac Blvd. in Detroit.

Jjaba.....Quit sniffing the printers ink.....b/W photo has surfaced and it is the corner of Jefferson/ Cadillac Blvd......Google Earth might refresh your memory....this Clark , Michigan Ave, and other sad vacant lots on the westside are meaningless....GB has been a huge help in the Jjaba CSI investigations that are going on as we speak about Denby high School......You went to a Great EASTSIDE HS and hang in there ....more to follow!

GB - I am so glad that you are now eligible for "medical Marijuana" and can continue your rehab. Why are you a well grounded although totally stoned eastsider telling the Dexter Bus driver to STAY COOL.....he will never be cool until he heads east....

Bulletin ! Bulletin! More information regarding the "J" boy and his Noble school experience has surfaced......so GB are you going to support the EASTERN SIDE or are you leaning towards a vacation on Northlawn with "J" boy??????

Goblue, didn't they teach geography at Denby?
Wayne State Univ., Cass Tech HS, Capitol Park, Tiger Stadium, The Casinos, The Fisher Bldg., and Palmer Park cannot be called Westside. They belong to all of Detroit. The Michigan State Fair ain't Eastside either.

The Westside is more like places such as Cooley HS, Mumford HS, Ford HS, Delray, Warrendale, Brightmoor, Livernois.

Goblue went to college. He knows better.
