OD: I was thinking that Siversteins was on Gratiot...on the west side of the street...between 7 & 8 Mile...or was that another "war surplus" store?

Z: Yeah...you're right...I remember the difference now...I remember driving past Silversteins and seeing those amphibious landing craft for sale...I guess they'd have been great for duck hunters.

Favorite store at Gratiot/7 was Olsen's electronics; other favorites Monkey Ward's (tool dep't), Stereo City.

Had forgotten all about Epps.

I think Epps had some was surplus stuff in the basement, but it wasn't nearly the scale that Silversteins did.

Playoffs are more important regular season games anyway. Maybe the cold shoulder effect will work for the puddycats.

Message to Sheffield. Those inside pitches you're turning away from are strikes!

All I know is my luckiest shirt and cap and Jc's filthiest stenchiest socks failed to bring them enough help to defeat the sux. Oh yeah, a couple of runs for us, and a couple of runs they didn't get against us, but it wasn't enough. I'm watching the game, but not the whole time.

Something tells me she may have given in and washed them hmmmmm. We may have the culprit here. That's it, I'm pulling out my 1935 World Series souvenir bat tonight, it's a sure streak buster.

And my 1969 program commemorating 1968 Champs. BTW, what kind of bread pins do you have from the 1910s?

The gym teachers at Denby used to send us to Epps to get our shorts and jocks. After a semester of not being washed it was always time for a new set. Epps got a lot of business from us.

Speaking of Seven and Gratiot, one of the very old posts before I joined the forum mentioned the Big Bear supermarket there. FYI... there was an alley running behind the stores on Gratiot. Big Bear was just across the alley behind them. I'm not sure exactly which store it was behind, but it seems it was somewhere in the middle of the block between Wards and Federals.

Z: Not sure about the significance, but I sure miss the Vipers. Was that the Vipers first game? They won the Turner Cup the same year as the Wings finally got the Stanley Cup back. Great hockey when all the Wings games were sold out.

Z: Another guess... Is that the game Gordie played a period with the Vipers to make it six decades?

I was at that game. Nose bleed seats, but what a game. Gordie and his boys on the ice once again. My son got to see Mr. Hockey laced up and on the ice. Way cool.

We were at the Turner Cup clincher too! And many more Viper games. Vipe Bear was great. He would come up and sit right next to you.

We never should have kicked Jjaba off the forum. Now he has gone off spreading lies about the Eastside on another forum.

https://www.atdetroit.net/forum/mes sages/5/138014.html?1210185379

At least here we could keep an eye on him.
