VG.........maybe if we all got together and came up with a viable use for the building (buildings)......that's pretty much been my forte these last few years.......see a building.......see a need............

above: the main entrance
below: East Catholic by name but St. Jude by heart

above: a view looking north toward the boys lav/drinking water faucet, through room 100 showing the north hall
below: the principal office window during the 60s looking out toward the patio. I still remember Bob Hoover kicking the playground ball on to the roof in 1st grade.....It was quite the topic of discussion.

EB: You said you saw no nuns in your class picture. There is an explanation for this:

The background is white. The habits were white. The nuns were white. Check again.

Is there anything more irritating than when Leyland does his post game interview with his mouth full of food?

Do you get FSN-D off of satellite? If you do, you just missed seeing Impemba and Keating.

Missed the highlight too. It was either Grandy's catch or Joyce's tater.

Eastburn: I thought the very thing about the no show of nuns in class pictures. I guess you could add the vow of humbleness to obedience, chastity, and poverty.

Hey all,

I noticed that Google Street maps has now included 7 mile. They got a pretty good panorama of the property. I remember the blvd on Moross having giant trees. All the trees I saw looked to be no more than 10 years old. Does anyone know what happened to them?

Dutch Elm Disease wiped out all of Detroit's elms (the majority of the trees lining city streets) in the 70s - at least I think that was when it was.

K. Road-I was in the class of 69, the 2nd grade play would have been 62/63, 4th grade Christmas play 64, 7th grade Christmas play 67 and the history plays 7th or 8th grade 67-69. I don't have any pictures of any of them so if anybody out there does it would be great to see them, especially Little Liza Jane ! Being the 7th child
(younger sister of Jokerman and Duck), photo's weren't a priority.

Mooncricket: Thanks to you and your family for input into this thread. I wish I had more photos of plays, band concerts, football, basketball, and or baseball games to post. Perhaps my siblings might have a shoe box or two of photos from their era (I'd be surprised...I seem to win the pack rat award)

All: Does anyone know what happened to all the trophies that were located in the gym lobby displaying trophies, photos and even a signed football (circa late 50s early 60s) of the St. Jude JETS? The few trophies now displayed are of the East Catholic Eagles.

Jazzstage: I was wondering the same thing about the trees on Moross as I headed west from I-94. The present trees seem to be the third set of trees planted. After the dutch elm disease claimed the original towering trees in the mid to late 60s the city and in some cases the home owner planted a variety of trees, perhaps some of them were emerald ash, hence a new grouping of trees. Now those trees are quite full but they don't posses the majestic quality of a towering canopy evident with the elms.

Most of the homes in the St. Jude parish, especially within the Detroit city limit had an elm tree.

Below: a shot of Eastwood from Kelly (May 16, 2008) looking west toward Morang.....many shade trees but not the tall towering one like the elms.

below: Chatham Inn (in the 50s) became the Star Bar then Jay's Paper Station, now Dunn Inn

About those trees again. I know about Dutch Elm disease but I lived on McCormick from the early 70's to the late 80's and those huge trees were there then. Google maps doesn't appear to show a single tree that is of any age.

When I was looking for any big trees I found some very interesting lawn furniture.

At least it would be comfortable. No splinters and not as cold as metal. But could be a problem after a rain shower.

Dunn Inn looks like a nice Irish bar. I remember the name Star Bar, but wouldn't necessarily have attached it to that building. I wonder if Dunn's makes ground rounds like Jay did. Checking out Dunn's ground rounds just moved up above going to the HWPL to look up information on Chatham Village, and just below an "unfettered" visit the old school!

It looks like "unfettered" really caught on. Try using it in every day conversation. It should be interesting.

BTW, Dunn's does make ground rounds...pretty much the same menu as Jay's. Infact, Jay still owns the building (maybe even the business)
