KR, I primarily remember those held at Bob Lo. I specifically remember smashing my finger in one of the on deck folding chairs and losing a nail, but it was still fun. My favorite ride was the Zugspitz or Himalaya, I don't remember what they called it there, and I loved the boat ride. If you have those pics of the Macomb twp picnics, post a couple on Facebook. It would be great to see those.

That's it, although it's spelled with no c in quick. I found a link to it
http://www.smithpremier.com/mi chigan%20pharmacies.htm
Click on the H and then Harper Woods. The store is gone, but lives on forever on the 'net.
I had help from the lady who runs a web site about memories of Detroit which I apparently can't mention here. It keeps getting dotted out when I try

Hey all.
Back in touch. I'm in St. Ignace for the night on my way back from the BMW rally in Houghton. Great weather, great riding, great people. Other than the 2 days of riding to Duluth in the rain last week, the weather was good. Sometimes cloudy but no rain. Cool - which is best for riding. The scenery here is spectacular. Rode up to Copper Harbor with a side trip up Brockway Mtn. down to the Porcupines & Lake of the Clouds.
My favorite, though, is the stretch between Marquette & Munising. I think Munising Bay is one of the prettiest places on earth. Kind of sorry I sold my property there but Lake Huron ain't all bad & a lot closer to the kids.
Met some really interesting folks at the rallies. You meet the nicest people on a BMW. But then, I'm on a Honda this trip. Guess that leaves me out.
Got a FREE room at the new casino in St. Ignace! As I was saddling up after finding out there were no rooms available, a gentleman approached me & said he'd bombed out of the blackjack tournament & was heading home. His room was paid for the night & I could have it if it was OK with the front desk. No problem, so here I am. $100 savings!
7KK - see above. Closest I got to Escanaba was Iron Mtn. on Monday
Z - pasty last night. Hadn't checked in so I couldn't dedicate it to you. Hope a day late counts.
JC _ I'll bring the warm weather home with me tomorrow.
CFC & Z - Glad you're both home safely.
7 - Yep got the 4GB 7" EEE with the built-in webcam. $400 on buy.com. I hear they have a newer one with the speakers moved to make room for a wider screen which would be appreciated. WiFi works fine.Did I miss anyone's questions?

7KK - I seem to recall that somewhere in this increasingly massive thread (of which we should be kind of proud)that subject has been touched upon. I seem to remember it being a grown-up who sold from the back of his car. Did a pretty good business, too.

JC - I'll do my best. Should be home by late afternoon. We'll see.

no no no......for lack of a better term..........he was a 'crippled kid' with a wagon...........every Sunday oh jeez......1960-1970.......I guess...........seem he got 2 bits for the paper.........I'm guessin' (maybe)....2 bits minus 9 cent cost times 10 years of Sundays = A CONDO IN BOCA!................I hope.

Canadada was fun! Niagara is gorge-eous. The weather held its own, and Clifton Hill was bustling as usual. It was nice to see the water flowing over the escarpment, but it would have been cheaper had we driven west.

We went to Marcel Dionne's memorabilia store there...the place is like a museum where they let you buy stuff...lots of neat decorating and Christmas present ideas for the hockey fan in your life... Marcel was not there this time, but we had a nice chat with his lovely wife and daughter. When we mentioned we were headed out the next day to see the HHOF, Mrs. Dionne presented us with passes.

BTW, the Hall is a must stop if you're going to Toronto. Of course, if you just want your picture take with the Stanley Cup, go to Detroit!

Eastburn - thanks for the up-date - have been to the Porcupines, Brockway Mtn, etc., and can't wait to get up there again. To do it up right, takes longer than the 2 weeks of vacation that I can take at one time - but it's breath-taking. Still love my walks along the Lake Superior shoreline!

I've covered this before about the Sunday newspapers but here it is again. The "crippled guy" who was born with polio was Melvin "Buddy" Godmire. He was the original one who sold the papers out back of the station wagon. He later built and raced cars at Mt. Clemens speedway. He later turned the papers over to his younger brother Jim. Both had red hair. Their father was a regional manager for the Freep, the one who would drop off the papers at the stations. They lived on Liberal about 6 houses down from me.

Z, another person on the memory site re: the Quik Save said they remember it as being "Dan's" or something like that at one time.

JC: Thanks, that makes more sense that it something else before Quik Save, but it doesn't ring a bell either. But, that's a start.

It looks like it says the paper was the Northeast Detroiter, is that still around?

I don't think so, but I could be wrong. It's probably one of those papers that gets delivered free on your porch or in the mailbox.

Yep, it was the Northeast Detroiter and I don't believe it's around anymore. Betty and I had a paper delivery route - but it was for a something "Shoppers". It was the largest route in the city, and the pay was low, but back then, it was cash for a Faircrest Market kite (Faircrest and Hayes)

I did a quick and dirty web search and there is something out there called the Northeast Detroiter Harper Woods Herald, but I don't have time right now to research further. I'll be back in a couple hours and look then.
