Sr. Anne Rochelle (2nd grade) and Sr. Joel Marie (3rd - my favorite) were two very nice, very approachable nuns, but I love all nuns.

I told Leland it would be better to pitch Verlander Friday with his normal 5 days rest instead of 6 when he would be rusty...

Speaking of Rusty, do you all remember Rusty the Rooster, and Gerome the Giraffe?

Thanks, 7.
If you mean approachable nuns, it would be Sr. Joyce. If you mean no-nonsense, I think the strictest nun was Sr. Ellen Richard, followed by Sr. Marie Christine and Sr. Paul Therese, although she had a soft side that she tried to keep hidden, and mostly succeeded

7 and all: 7's pics of Manning/Boulder and "Franks" could go in right under our noses but never there category. Only know Boulder existed because fellow cub scouts lived on Maddeline near Boulder but never ventured up Boulder or Cordell until much later on. The paper station on Boulder was actually much closer than the one on Mapleridge and Celestine (my Det. News route)....never knew it existed until my late teens/early twenties. I guess that shows how provincial kids can be (and adults) when the need to make a right turn isn't there.

I'll put this out (It's actually a sub category of right under our noses). Is there a place, street, store, little neighborhood etc with in the St. Jude parish that you never knew existed until much later in life?

Old Homestead Street in Harper Woods. It just didn't register, even though I walked to Regina for 3 years.
Oddly, most of the walk to Regina was done on the Detroit side of Kelly, even though I usually met my friend, Karen, who lived in Harper Woods, and she would cross Kelly to meet another Detroit-sider and I to walk up to State Fair, and then cross over to 'her' side of Kelly again. I don't know why we didn't just cross to her side and continue on.

What?? The corn wasn't there again? I had a package marked "Highly Toxic" for JC & 7's eyes only. I can't believe it wasn't there. I tell ya the crime rate in Iowa is just out of control.

I wonder if the old man is downplaying the significance of the game today. I think in retrospect, Fridays game had more importance now that they've lost 2 in a row to the Sucks. But what do we fans know.

JC: I agree about Sis Paul Therese, she definitely had a soft side, especially if the Tigers were doing well. You can't hold too much against someone who's a loyal baseball fan

Zitro-I think everybody who lived anywhere near Boulder would shop at Franks for their moms---it was seven houses away from my house. You could buy cigs back then for your folks- I remember 52 cents for some reason- and they wouldn't care-cause at the same time you would buy a box of those hard white chalky play cigs with the red tip on it for yourself--Do they still sell candy cigarettes? Seems the PC whiners would probably have outlawed those--too influential for the little ones- unlike x-rated violent video games, of course. Did you ever cut through "Frank's Field and get all those picky burrs stuck on your socks? And your bike would go in the hole?
Jcole-By the way, if you mean Stantons as in Bub---yes I knew him very well.

Hi gang - Boy - that was a fast 2 weeks and according to what I've been able to catch-up on, I'm to scale the heights of the belltower to do a little "Fay Wray" - and get some painting done? Still in the vacation mode, so hit me with that in a day or two when I'm back in the work groove. So what happened while I was gone? JC - welcome back to you.
As far as nuns - I agree - Sr. Joyce didn't count - and Sister Paul Therese was strict, but she did have a soft side. Sister Ellen Richard or Sister Marie Raymond would get my votes for the most intimidating.

Z, I swear Paul Therese would have dropped her rosary and wimple at the gate if she could have played one inning with the Tigers. They were her team.
CFG, isn't it odd how the 'boys' leave all the heavy work for the women folk. They can take the pictures, but no one wants to climb up and take a wire brush to the scaffolding. Boy, some people...
Glad you're back, too.

Faircoma, I really meant Stanton as in Marianne, but Bub was her older brother. I used to hang around with Marianne in 8th grade and HS.
What year did you graduate from Denby, if you don't mind my asking

I remember Sr. Marie Raymond. She was a sweet gentle woman...a true Catholic who I remember as presenting to me the very foundation of my faith.

Obviously, if you're teaching four classes of 50 - 60 fifth graders you're going to need to establish some rules. Sr. Marie Raymond is top five on my list!

Welcome back Cfg!

Looks like you'll need a couple more weeks off from your paying job to catch up on your expanded list.

Sign me up for watching your ladder for a shift.

Laing, you went to see the "Dark Knight". The chase scene where they're trying to move Dent to County...it reminded me of the NASCAR or "18 Wheeler" arcade games where you can drive your vehicle off the road, or crash into other cars or concrete beams, and just keep going...a bit unreal, unlike the rest of the movie which was totally believable.

Faircoma/Z/J, what was up with your Frank's store. From the outside it looks like an oversize attached garage to the neighboring house. I'm guessing Frank and his family lived there?

Thanks for trying Z and J...it's not your all's fault those fiends stole them.

The Eastern Michigan State Fair is coming up soon. If we can get there, I'll at least get some good Michigan sweet corn.

The corn is in up here already, 7. You don't need to wait for Imlay City. Just go to Van Houte's on Van Dyke and 34 Mile. The wagon is full

KR, Salter was a later discovery for me. I'm riding my bike beyond my normal haunts and there it was!

On the other hand, Casino to Harper and beyond around Balduck Park over to Kirby(?) to the lake...much more familiar to me...even Lakepointe with the pedestrian bridge over I94 past Mack and Jefferson across Alter and a canal bridge over to the riverside park in the D...all that before I knew about Salter.

7, I will be trying to pick some up on Mon or Tues. I'll let you know how it is.
Ioway was pretty wet. I don't know how the crop will be there. I'm sure some parts of the state were fine, but it was raining when I came through on Friday, and Z said they got 7" of rain on Thurs;.

7: That house behind the store always seemed to be occupied by people who didn't live there too long. I know the brothers didn't live there. One of Rudi's sons Phil(73?) went to ND and played hockey.

FC: I do remember getting burrs on my socks from the place.

JC: I don't understand, you gals have been screaming for equality for years and now we give you a chance to prove your mettle and we get blamed for being lazy. Can't have it both ways you know

CFG - Welcome back! We missed you. I'll be happy to stop in Norman's for your coveralls. I'm in Bad Axe at least once a week.

Who says the guys aren't willing to help out?

Z, I never asked for equality. I would be perfectly content to sit on a satin cushion and be adored for the rest of my life.
Didn't Ruggeri's live on Manning and Kelly, kitty corner from Mary Jean Mazur?

Thank you KR for discovering this problem with your keen eye and awesome lenses.

Cfg, if you don't want to scrape and paint these three little bell supports yourself, I've got another plan: VEGAS NIGHT in the gym! I'll deal.
