You're welcome Campfiregirl. We're all just puttin' on the happy here at Club Judes! :-)

For all girls and dudes
A place to hang out
Come to Club Judes
Take your dime and grab a milk everyone
Now it's recess let's have some fun
On the hill by the church or steps at school
Bring on your game it's all cool
Hiding by the gym playing tricks
Or sitting perched on the top of the bricks
Oh, man what the hell
Here it comes again
There's the sound of that annoying bell
Beckoning us in to return to class
As we trudge back in
What a total pain in the ass
More reading, writing and arithmetic
The sound of pencils tapping
And the click of a bic
"Now it's time for a suprise test.
Then you'll read the next few chapters
Remember kids to do your best."
Oh, man! I hate it and wish it'd all go away
And little then did we know
How true it would be one day
This place of our childhood would close its door
All would be silent and locked
Never to be open to us anymore
And we now look back with fondness and love
Wishing we were kids again and
Thankful of our time at St. Judes to God above

With Love,
Diane

Mine was a much simpler time,
a time when Bic's didn't click.
Trying to find another rhyme,
but the clock just goes tick tick.

Welcome back Cfg.

Did you get back in time to see the Lions out scratch the Bengals? It got ugly there for awhile. It's amazing what CJ can do when you actually get him the ball. DS was fantastic! And the Tampa 2 D held up nicely despite being outsized.

Jcole: my apologies regarding the question on the older Denby grads. For some reason I confused you with someone from one of the other forum's. Diane: To help you clear up what my name is, go to our class photo from '77, and I am pictured immediately left of you. Also, I joined facebook under the SJ section.

hey all, i have a question. I saw the pix on facebook - great stuff and great memories. Made me wonder, why did they ever move the office to the front of the school and move the library? I know the office between the two wings may have become too small, but the library on the Maddelin side seemed adequate. Wasn't the office somewhere else between the time it was between the wings and where it ended up? And with the church offices in the old convent, what are those beautiful priest offices being used for now?

Laing: You probably hit the nail on the head concerning the office....It was too small. but back in the hey day of SJ it was a matter of precious real estate...there were simply no class rooms to render as offices...IMO, the same thing probably applied to the library....there wasn't the space available (for the longest time SJ used portables to accomodate the large number of students) As the enrollment declined more space became available for labs, computer rooms, library, etc etc..Infact the most recent library was the combination of two classrooms. The rectory office question is interesting...CFG I'm sure can help on this one.

that makes sense. after i graduated in 71, i kept going to church there till 82 when i moved to tn. seems i do remember some portables behind the school. in fact, talking about the number in classes, in 4th grade in rm 129 with Sr. Mary Baraga, there were 33 boys and 18 girls. huge for it's day. funny thing, my home room for 8th grade was back in 129.

Not sure exactly when the office was moved to the former classroom #105, but it is right off the main entrance from 7 Mile. Since Columbine, and possibly before at East Catholic, security was beefed up, and visitors could more easily be scrutinized, buzzed in or escorted from that location.

i was lucky enough to walk through the school before it became East Catholic, probably @1998 and the office was moved then. Never thought about the possible tie concerning Columbine. What ever happened to innocence? didn't they used to leave the church open all night back in the day?

I believe the parish office is still in the rectory. The old convent houses a crisis pregnancy center, and the St. Jude Food Pantry.

BTW, if you are interested in donating to a worthy cause, where your donation goes for direct assistance to truly needy families and individuals, please consider sending your check to the St. Jude Food Pantry, 15889 E. Seven Mile Rd, Detroit, MI 48205.

You would cry your eyes out to see the very depth of the need, and the miraculous way in which Our Lord is working there.

Laing: The church use to be open in the 60s and 70s around the clock for "perpetual adoration" You might recall those who attended perpetual adoration would sign up in the vestibule when they attended. Sadly, that ended in the 70s due to theft and vandalism.

BTW, 7andKelly makes a good point. We all know that the direction of our beloved parish has evolved into more of an urban mission. Therefore, the idea of relegating part of one's charitable contributions to the pantry is a great way to give and "connect" to your roots.

7andkelly-I will send as soon as I have money myself. I am penniless and living in horrible conditions myself. Things are very slowly improving. I've had some health issues. I've spent most of my life working and attaining things and lost it all to people who took advantage of me. Now I am having to begin yet again at 45 and am scared crapless to think of my elder years coming and having nothing.I also got dumped anonymously from one man I was in love with who ended up keeping most of the things I sent to him because I was moving to the UK (long story)and then another could never tell me he loved me. Sorry to be a downer when I was such an upper earlier. I'm just feeling it more today and gosh I really need hugging.

I used to do a shift of perpetual adoration in the middle of the night when I was in my late teens.

Really positive experience. Never felt alone in the church. Guess I wasn't eh?

I'll try to answer some of your questions. The office was moved to the front of the school because that was the main entrance and it was for security reasons. The "Convent" houses Imago Dei Pregnancy Crisis center in the front - and the St. Jude Food Pantry uses the Nun's pantry, and "cell" rooms to organize food, clothes, books, health aids, etc. to provide to the poor in the immediate community. (A definite need for donations both for the St. Jude food pantry and to St. Jude Parish, for those for which it's possible) Our Parish provides both stability, food and comfort in a area sorely needing all services. The rectory is still Father's home, in addition to the Parish offices. The front of the rectory has offices for the Parish Nurse and Business Administrator. As is the case in most churches now, regardless of location, it is locked during the day. I also remember being able to run in after work and say a quick prayer in the St. Jude chapel for a special intention. That's probably why I'm still there - it feels good to help out at "home" - and being able to connect with all of you, filling you in on the news and history, where I can, is great.

7K - You already "own" the trifecta and more! You will have to settle for the admiration and recognition by your fellow SJS classmates of your depth of knowledge. I could send you a gold star for your forehead, if that would make you feel better.

Yes, thank you! I'll accept the gold star, even though any admiration for my depth of knowledge has likely been completely offset and overrun with disdain for my braggadocio.

"Braggadocio"! You'd even impress the folks on the ES thread with that one.

Betcha most "publics" don't use that in everyday speech. Another example of the benefits of a Catholic education.

I'm still waiting for my HAZMAT suit to come back from the cleaners from the last time I stepped in that swine slime.

Besides, I may have an equine allergy.

They're in quarantine for good reason.
