EB, so I take it your idea for McCain's VP would be more along the lines of Ann Coulter than Barbara Streisand. |

7, I think Coulter is probably a plant from the left side put out there to make true conservatives look bad. I'm looking to clone Teddy Roosevelt. Or James Madison. Of course, I was a card-carrying member of the NAACP in college. Even carried a picket sign in front of the Azam Market. |

You're probably right, but I'm sure this chatter will be fodder for the three idiots over on the quarantined threads. They've likely pretty much beaten their old horses to death over there anyway, I'm sure. |

At the risk of seeming political, I've come up with a way to pay for the oil drilling in my back yard. |

I was there too - will never forget the silence. Since we knew all the security guards from the baseball season, we were often on the sidelines by the players bench just before the game started. During the day, nothing like seeing Joe Namath up close. Got lots of autographs during those days. Johnny U was the most exciting. Got our tickets for the Nov. 9th game. Can't wait to hear the blue and silver! |

Laing, glad to see another Lions fan on board! I'm pretty sure SI didn't predict a Super Bowl victory for the Lions, but that's good news, because that is a known jynx. I remember that game you mentioned...just an awful day...one that puts it all in perspective. |

BTW, I found some root beer popsicles at Walmarts, Deans brand, not Good Humor. Very delicious! Took me back to those days as a kid where I'd hear those bells and rush out to that white truck, hand the guy in the uniform my dollar, and watch in amazement as he pressed those buttons on his change maker. |

I forgot about that change maker - we only got nickels too, J, so don't feel alone. I think the Awrey Bakery man even had one of those. |

What was the name of the larger truck (about the size of a UPS truck) that had ice cream, cotton candy, candy etc?. It served from the side. It had a musical jingle played and a bull horn speaker to announce from. Was it Mr. Softee?? Anyway that truck would alway head west off of Kelly Rd right around dinner time (much to my parent's chagrin). It seemed that truck and the Good Humor guy would compete head to head in that area for years. |

Mr. Softee. I think I mentioned that really early on in the thread. It had a giant ice cream cone with a face on top. I still think it's kind of a weird name. |

You probably did mention it JC. You're right, the name is interesting beyond the soft ice cream it served. Anyway, that truck would go down Eastwood and slow down around Redmond right in front of the Shaheen's home. I can still hear that circus like ditty blaring from its speaker. Kids from all up and down the street would emerge.....many after pleading for loose change from their parents. Some kids just hung around because that was the happening seen. If I remember correctly, usually right in front of our house. I don't know if that was a function of the fact that we bought a lot or we were the exact center of the block, though |

Nope, Only the Good Humor Man. Every once in a while the guy who used to cruise around Heilman on one of those bicycle ice cream contraptions would come down our block. |

Driving down Michigan Ave. a couple times recently, I saw a couple of those bicycle ice cream carts. One with Mexican frozen treats, the popsicle like treats in guava, and papaya like flavors, and another one selling bags of churros and bunuelo as well as individual treats. Had bottles of honey on the ledge, and tins of powdered sugar. Also several trucks with both types of treats parked in market lots and on the street. It was like the old days, sort of.
