The 4 wins we had in the preseason should count for a first week bye...Or, when we force a team to punt we should get 1 or 2 points. The NFL's competition committee should take a look at these suggestions.
The worst TEam in the NFL = Detroit

I said it before...the reason Detroit looked good in preseason is that they were playing second teams (read: second rate players).

Detroit is run by a second rate organization with mostly second rate talent. When they finally had to play an NFL caliber team (no I do not mean Atlanta is a good team just an NFL team) they had their asses handed to them.

By the way is it me or were the only two decent players Williams and Johnson? Kitna once again looked like an idiot screaming on the siddelines (absolutely poor passes) and yet threw an INT and had a fumble....what a boob!

It looked like a Chinese fire drill. Our defense is awful. How does anybody run for over 200 yards in the NFL. We made that running back look like an all pro, and a rookie QB look like Tom Brady.
The thing that really stands out is our new "additude". Team players my butt, Kitna looked like a insane man. The players were going through the motions and its only the first game.

Jon Kitna on the sidelines, yelling at the coach looked pathetic. Kitna would've looked "intense" and like "a competitor" a little more if he performed on the field.
All those poor passes. A fumble. An interception. His shaking knees as he saw a clear field and 7 yards seperating him from a Lions touchdown and the best he could do was throw the ball away in the endzone!

I don't understand it. The draft process and the salary cap has done wonders to limit the dynasties and create parity in the league. Except for in Detroit.

The annual masochistic ritual of following Lions football has started again. Like death and taxes, there are few things you can count on in this world but the Lions stinking is one of them.
Getting a .500 team once again looks out of the question. The news accounts and quotes from the players are hilarious. When will the fans stop going to see these losers?

I am officially ending my DirecTV Season ticket after this season. The Lions are my guilty pleasure, good or bad I'll always be a fan, but yesterday I had this sick feeling as though I was wasting my life. For the first time, it felt as though there is and never will be any hope.. Not sure why it took so long, but it really hit home yesterday.

So next year (it's too late for this year), I am ending my Season Ticket and going to put that $250 to a much better use. I'll just follow the team via espn clips following each game, or the Freep / Detnews websites.

I don't think he recorded any drops on Sunday.

Stick to sports you know, the first team did not play against second rate players in the pre-season.

quote:

All those poor passes. A fumble. An interception. His shaking knees as he saw a clear field and 7 yards seperating him from a Lions touchdown and the best he could do was throw the ball away in the endzone!

And yet he did enough to win, the defense, namely Paris Lenon can not get it done. The bitching is no big deal, it happens on every sideline for every team.

I often wonder who is the real idiots are, the Lions or the fans calling them idiots.

The Lions will be OK. I think yesterday they got 'horn-swaggled' by the Atlanta Falcons. I think it was as much as bad scouting and coaching than anything.

Who in the world knew that the Falcons had 2 bulldozer running backs. I'm not saying Atlanta will win many games, but with a solid running witnessed like yesterday, the Falcons will be no push-arounds.

The offense impressed me a bit, at times they moved the ball with no problem. Mistakes and Miscues by Kitna and the lack of defense prevented the Lions from moving the ball at will on the Falcons.

The Lions were able to produce over 300 yards of offense, despite being dominated on defense. The offense will keep them in many games. I think this is something to look forward to this season.

Here are a few things I noticed in the game that will be problematic in the ultimate journey of their success.

*Unprepared coaching Staff.

*Lack of timely third down conversions.

*Under utilization of Johnson and Williams on third downs.

*Kitna making untimely errors.

*No pressure on from the defensive front. The Lions showed how much they will miss Shawn Rogers.

*Two minute drill is awful.

*Lack of special team's return unit.(They need to sign a true return specialist.)

Overall, I think the defense (secondary) over pursued and missed tackles because of their aggressiveness and speed. This will become a plus when the season slows down a bit.

The offense will be prolific, when the coaches realize they have the best 2 receivers (Williams and Johnson) in the league.

Matt Millen should work on finding a punt and kick off return specialist. Once we obtain one, the Lions will be a better team.

Atlanta caught the Lions off guard...this is not the team we saw yesterday. The Lions will come out better next game. The game will be slower because the excitement of opening day will be past.

I still see a 10 win season out of this team.

Let's see....a team loses their franchise quarterback, fires their coach and GM, and basically starts from scratch just like an expansion team, and they proceed to hand us our ass while starting a rookie quarterback. What else do you need to know about the Matt Millen era ?

SJ, your agreeing to a 10 win season?
Blksoul, Are you including all the pre season wins in your 10 win prediction?
Defense wins in this league, we have none.

Per sports radio and the newspapers, the team was not prepared. I did not see any of the game, but I do know Marinelli's is just not a good coach. I believe he will be gone by mid season. He'll be fired, but the Lyin's will say he resigned. Probably, Jim Coletto? will be named Head coach for the remainder of the season, is my guess. The Greenbay game is not a sellout yet and may not be televised. The Lyin's are scrambling to sell tickets this year and they should be. Offering all kind of packages, like 4 packs etc. It's not working. Maybe declining attendance will finally force Ford to remove Millen. Continually selling out every game certainly will not, because Ford doesn't think of the paying fans at all. Well, maybe he thinks the paying fans are braindead and he and Millen are having a good laugh while sipping they're top shelf bourbon. On the upside, in this world, nothing stays the same.

And what would be the advantage of firing Marinelli in mid-season? There wouldn't be anything to be gained from any of it by handing it over to Jim Coletto. This isn't a ringing endorsement of Marinelli by any means because he still needs to learn how to be a HEAD coach and not just an assistant coach. Marinelli seems to be preaching the right techniques and system- I don't see anyone doubting that; what is discouraging is the execution of the plays and schemes. That responsibility falls mainly on the shoulders of the players themselves. Prime example is the tackling or lack thereof that occurred during last Sunday's game.

And stotter- the Lions and every other sports team in this town have been offering every other sort of mini-packages to their games. It's nothing unusual at all in this economically challenged area where the entertainment dollar is stretched thin. Heck, the Red Wings won the Stanley Cup last year and could hardly sell out the games. EVERY sports team in this town is struggling to sell out their games- it's not that unusual.

I would not have compared Atlanta to an expansion team at all. Michael Turner would probably have made it anywhere in the league as a starting RB with the exception of where he came from- San Diego, where he played behind LT for four years. Matt Ryan's passing didn't really hurt us too badly; they kept the game simple for him to ease into and he only attempted 13 passes altogether. Playing in front of a hometown crowd I think Atlanta was glad to have shed a lot of its Vick & coaching baggage and played with a lot more sense of urgency than the Lions. Atlanta played a solid game with a solid game plan- let's give that up to them as well as admonishing our team's lack of accomplishments as well.

It will be interesting to see how Atlanta does this year. They may be better than expected.

It's possible the Lions were overconfident going 4-0 in preseason and expecting Atlanta to be as bad as last year.

The defense needs to suck it up. Sometimes they held, often they didn't.

If a wake up call is needed, let it be the first game of the season.

Drew Sharp wrote in todays freep that if the Lyin's lose to the packers, they're season will be over in the first 2 games, I don't necessarily agree with him, but it sure will be an embarrassment, something the Lyin's are not stranger too. The only thing that's relevant with Atlanta, is that they asswhupped the Lyin's in a game that Detroit was favorite. It appears that Ford and Millen aren't embarrassed at all, only richer and richer with each game.

They might sell more 4 pack ticket specials if they offered this one:

4 tickets
4 hot dogs
4 soft drinks and your choice of:
4 blindfolds or
4 paper bags with eye cut outs.

If they lose today it's over. The first half of their schedule is the soft half.
