What a great start they're off to today. Any bets on how much worse it gets?

Jimmy Johnson says not to worry Detroit fans the team is just playing possum.

This was just after Strahan ripped into the whole team for not having any heart.

lzzyindetroit stated...
quote:

IThis was just after Strahan ripped into the whole team for not having any heart.

Strahan hit the nail on the head with that statement! Just a thought...I wonder what kind of coach he would make!

Mike Martz looks like a Genius compared to Marinelli.

In response to Coach Marinelli's comment on 'good practices'...If I make evoke the sentiments of the ex-Philadephia 76ers superstar Allen Iverson...

...'YA'LL talk'n bout' PRACTICE...PRACTICE'!

If anybody tells me again that Allen Iverson was full of himself with those profound words...I'll simply direct them the 'M$M' philosophy...We have great practice players!__go figure!

This team is B.A.D....Busted and Defeated!

Again,

Here is an example of BAD coaching! (I'm not saying they were going to comeback but you have to put the team in the best position to win)

The Lions had just scored, making the score 28-13 with 6:50 to go....What do the Lions do?...Instead of a basic kick-off, and relying on the D to go 3-and-out, they decided to pouch kick, 1/2 kick, on-side kick the ball directly to a 49er's line of scrimmage player to which the 49er's promptly ran the ball down to the 10 yard line to eventually kick a game decisive ending field goal.

M$M part 2, has got to go!

What do possums and the Detroit Lyin's have in common?

They both play dead at home and
get killed on the road

Can it get any worse?

I'm much more into baseball than football, but I feel bad for those of you who really love football and have, as your local NFL representative, this horrible team which-- despite seeming to have "bottomed out" so many times-- somehow manages to become worse, over and over.
They are so awful, one might even believe that they would, at some point, improve just by accident.

Yeah, it's exceptionally painful to watch. The Lions have some pieces that would probably excel in other environments but because of the culture of losing here, it's tough to muster up the energy at times to play well. There's plenty of blame to be levied across the board at the organization and very little to be proud of at times. I don't think we fans would be so disappointed if we were told that this group was going to be blown up, the youngsters were going to be given a shot to be the future, but it's been a constant tease. I realize a team has to have some veterans on it to keep a sense of stability but at this point- throw some of the youngsters out there and see if they pan out. Obviously the old guard isn't doing it.

Without reading a post about the lions all i can say is puke!

I can understand lack of talent, bad coaching, and most other variables, but to lack heart is unforgivable.

Also, we as football fans should not care more about the lions then the players, coaches, and owners. After all they are the ones playing within the sporting world making tons of money.

WE DESERVE MORE AS FANS!

Also, I love how other teams are bale to rebuild every couple years and the lions continue to suck decade after decade.

Example - Dallas, Chicago, Jax, SD, and many others....

The answer to that Defendbrooklyn is for the fans to quit buying tickets and supporting Mr. Fords looser. There is no incentive to want a winner when you can fill the stadium with a losing team.....only then will he either will fire Millen or sell the team in either case would be good.

It has been rumored that the Thanksgiving game is going to be pulled from being televised nationally. Great idea, why have any viewers gagging on their turkey dinners. The network feels that the Lyin's are too bad of a team to televise, will have poor ratings, and would do an injustice to the sponsors. There will be some blackouts of home games this season. The Lyin's are the laughing stock of the NFL and the country. To continue to stick up for them and be a faithfool fan, compromises any intelligence, or shows lack of any. It's going to get worse.

The NFL has revenue sharing, not buying tickets and concessions only hurts the people who work in those businesses.

The only way for Ford to be embarrassed is on the field.

Nice bar stool rumor. Not going to happen.

It sure won't happen. Ford spends too much money on advertisements to pull that horrible team off of the tube.

I am really starting to believe that they may in fact go winless this season.

I am the only one who is tired of hearing cliches from both Marinelli and Millen? "We didn't execute. We have to keep moving forward (though they are moving backwards)..."

How about instead of thinking of what you are going to say to the reporters at the middle of the first quarter, you Marinelli, start lighting fires under their asses!

As for Millen and his stupid "foundation" statements. How in the fuck do you build a foundation on below average play? How in the fuck do you build a foundation when you haven't won a game yet? Face it you are as drunk as the geezer who hired you!

In case Lions fans think that they may win a couple of games this year. I believe the team is starting to fall apart.
Here is why?

Kitna has no faith in the coaching staff (he was yelling at the QB coach again on the sidelines). But read this statement carefully.

"I just got beat up all day," said Kitna, who went 15-for-30. "The play at the end was a culmination of four or five hits. ... We're built to run the football, not [throw it] and get easy completions. That's not very effective when you're down by that many points."

Here is Rod Marinelli finally telling us what we all have known for the last 7 years.
I think this is his way of stating he doesn't have the answers anymore.

"For whatever reason, the coaches and players aren't executing. We didn't get it done. They're fundamental things that we as a staff and players didn't get done."

Ahh yes. Fundamentals! How long does it take to instill "fundamentals" in a PRO football league. The same league that is supposed to be the best of the best? I truly believe that UM could beat this team with their second rate players against Detroit's starting line.

I am glad all I ever do it get blind drunk when I go to these events. When people say "are you going to the game?" I tell them "no, I am going to a drinking event."

Maybe Ford and Millen would like a drink with me?

Points well made there, Goat.

As far as the fans not appearing at games to make a point, the Freep's Michael Rosenberg wrote a pretty extensive article on it a few days ago that makes some sense here:

http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs .dll/article?AID=/20080913/COL 22/309130001/1049/SPORTS01

The NFL is too good of a hook for any of us fans here. As frustrating as the Lions' play is on the field, I'm sure the majority of us will be back to watch it next weekend. If it's blacked out on TV, some of us will probably listen to it on the radio and surely we'll be looking for the score on the ESPN ticker, the 10 or 11:00 news after the game's been played.

This team could conceivably go winless this season; the season doesn't look any easier. The bye week is a merciful reprieve for us Lions faithful (it just means we watch the other NFL teams play that week). Until Millen and his Pennsylvania sized ego rides off on his Harley, we're stuck with a guy who doesn't know how to draft talent. We could have Vince Lombardi as a coach and with the barebones talent that we have, we still don't have much of a chance. I'm tired of blaming the individual pieces and have relegated myself to blaming the architect.

Thanks for the link Smogboy. Rosenberg is right on the money.
I too am a Lions fan and will be forever but you are correct in that we could have Belichek AND Lombardi and we would still lose because our owner builds a "foundation" of loyalty instead of a "foundation" of knowledgable football staffers.
The front office, the scouts (especially the scouts), the GM and the coaching staff (except the kicking coach) need to go.

I saw this one posted on a bulletin board when I was attending Macomb abut 15 years ago:

"Will the mother of the 11 missing children please report to the field level immediately as her kids are beating the Lions 28-0"

It's still just as funny and just as true today

The Detroit Lions are the Los Angeles Clippers of the NFL. We have in William Clay Ford an owner who long ago realized that he can put an inept product on the field and still make loads of money while losing. Like the Clippers' ownership, he figures as long as this formula works, why mess with it?

Pete Rozelle used to say that "The NFL is only as strong as its weakest team". To think that the Lions belong to (literally) the same sports league as the Colts, Bears, Steelers, Giants, Patriots is laughable.

That game was especially sad after watching the excellent Giants - Bengals game. It's nice to watch two teams play real football !

I've been saying it for years, the Lions need an offensive line. Our line is built around a false premise....that Raiola and Backus are good. Backus is slow as molasses, and Raiola is a small Center that can't dominate anybody. Unless they pull him, he continually gets destroyed. The rest of the line couldn't start for any team in the NFL except us. If you don't have an O-line, you can't run, you can't protect the quarterback, and you sure as hell can't control the clock.

Whose decision was it for this team to not have a kick return specialist ? They started the season with 11 defensive lineman, 4 Ends, and only 4 receivers. Someone is nuts

Whats the difference between the Detroit Lyin's and a dollar bill?

You can still get four quarters out of a dollar bill.
